Court of Peru sentenced on Tuesday, April 7, former President of the country 70-year-old Alberto Fujimori's 25 years' imprisonment.

That was reported by Agence France Presse, referring to representatives of the court.

Earlier on Tuesday Fujimori was found guilty in court of human rights violations. At the end of the meeting, which lasted several hours, the court declared the period, the former president of Peru.

On Sunday, November 2, we - seven Armenians for Obama volunteers from Massachusetts - drove to Plymouth, a small town in the swing state of New Hampshire, to canvass and get out the vote for Barack Obama. It was a 2 hour ride, but the beautiful fall landscape on one hand, and David Sedaris’ audio books on the other, made for a pleasant drive.

Driving into Plymouth, one would not guess that history was about to be written in its quiet streets. But once on Main Street, we felt we were part of an important moment; a father and his young daughter waving signs, a young man stacking yard signs in his van, a group of volunteers on a coffee break. On a bright Sunday morning, people of all ages were out in the streets, working hard for change.

We were greeted by a group of enthusiastic organizers, who, within minutes, trained and dispatched us to various areas of town to knock on doors of undecided voters, to get out the vote for Barack Obama. Our experiences varied; many of the doors knocked did not open, some of us got into lengthy conversations, while others were asked to leave. Most of us ended up speaking to fewer people than we had hoped for, but someone had to go out and knock on these doors, and we did it. In the end, we were there for just one day in a very long campaign, and what our presence meant mattered more than what it achieved.

Sharing her impressions of our trip, my friend Megan Rees wrote to me: “My biggest contribution was showing support for the campaign organizers who have been working tirelessly on our behalf. I wanted to canvass because it's important that we all participate in our democracy.”

Learning Obama has the support of the Armenian-American community surely energized the tireless organizers in Plymouth. They loved the red-blue-orange Obama logo on our T-shirts, so we left a couple with them. They, in turn, gave us giant posters and stacks of stickers. Needless to say, we left with much more than that.

As we left Plymouth and joined the busy highway back home, I felt privileged and confident; privileged to have participated in a movement that ultimately strives for fairness, justice, and truth. And confident that the energy and enthusiasm we witnessed will ensure we elect the leader we deserve. We deserve Barack Obama, and we are going to elect him tomorrow.

Yesterday I went canvassing for Obama—I have a regular shift every Saturday in New Hampshire, a very important state to gain for the upcoming election. I view New Hampshire, which is a few miles from my home in Vermont just across the Connecticut River, as a rare beast, a markedly different entity concerning politics, if you will: in the last election, the state favored Kerry by about 20 percentage points. New Hampshire, in the current race, was up for grabs.

So, there I was, canvassing in New Hampshire yesterday: on a new “turf,” as the campaign calls it. They pair you up with someone, always, so I went with a young friend, Josh. A recent college graduate, paired with a mother of a recent college graduate—we were a formidable team, college funding loans notwithstanding.

Since we were in the small, economically-depressed, and spread-out, towns of Southern New Hampshire, we had to drive. Usually I canvass in Keene, which is urban, and we can walk door-to-door. We set out in my beat-up Subaru, campaign materials and our checklist of voters in hand. We were told at the staging area in the old mill town of Ashuelot, to approach the voters with the Senate campaign of Jean Shaheen and the congressional race of Paul Hodes first—I knew something about both candidates. Josh and I decided to take off our Obama buttons, even though that was our reason for being there, since we didn’t want to appear too eager to talk about Obama right away. Our goal, and the Obama campaign’s goal, is to gather information on the voters, and we worked in our questions methodically, but with a plan and a script to use.

Our first house was owned by a retired 79-year-old registered Democrat. Though she was extremely hard of hearing, we discussed Shaheen’s race, and then she wanted to talk about the presidential campaign. She said she liked both presidential candidates but McCain was too old, and, if something should happen to him, she didn’t want “that inexperienced woman” to run the country. Case closed.

We then went to the apartment around the back and we were invited into the kitchen of a mother and child. The child, a boy aged six, promptly yelled that he was “for Obama!” while the mother shushed him. She said she was undecided. Our approach was very low-keyed—we don’t want to be too pushy. I gave her a handout about Obama, which is an excellent piece that talks about who he is and where he came from. She was hesitant, standing there in her sunny kitchen, with her six-year-old son doing karate chops in the air chanting, “I’m voting for Obama.”

As I was getting ready to leave, she and I marked the voting sheet together, while Josh chatted amicably about all the good things that the Obama/Biden ticket would do for the economy, our country, etc. We checked off all the Democrats running for office, Shaheen, Hodes, until we came to the presidential box. She hesitated and she said, “I’m for Obama.”

Dede Cummings is a noted book designer and five-time winner of the New England Book Award for her design and typography. She studied literature at Middlebury College. She is owner and art director of the Brattleboro, Vermont firm, DCDESIGN. She is married with three children, ages 23, 20, and 16. Her hobbies include hiking, writing, running, reading, nordic and backcountry skiing. She lives with her family in a house her husband, Steve Carmichael built himself in West Brattleboro, Vermont.

First Obama Victories : Dixville Notch and Harts Location, NH

Here's the story in Jonna's own words:

Hannah and I had never met before but went out together each weekend to canvass, and Hannah went from being a shy, retiring canvasser to a star. Now she's helping to staff the new Enfield office.
Today, volunteers streamed in all day. Hannah did back-to-back training sessions, and I took two packets and canvassed all day. As always, I visited with many truly nice people, including some died-in-the-wool Republicans voting for Obama -- and a true NH Independent, who makes his decisions one at a time. He is voting for Obama. It was a great day -- we were out in archetypal, conservative New Hampshire country, and it's becoming Obama country!
We are almost there. In this brand new Enfield office the stream of volunteers was never-ending, all day. Many people I talked to want to vote in this historic election. They are voting for themselves, as well as for Obama.
The only thing that can defeat us now is complacency. As we saw in the New Hampshire primary, we lost when we thought we were winning. We can’t assume anything. We must do everything now to get out the vote for Obama. The campaign is so well-organized – it is all GOTV now. You can even put signs on doors at 4 a.m. to get out the vote if you’re busy during the day. GOTV is easy; anyone can do it. So don’t just worry about whether he wins. Get out there and help the campaign bring in a landslide mandate for this inspiring, honorable, brilliant man. I’ll be out all weekend and at the polls all day helping the campaign do what’s necessary to put him over the top, and I know there are hundreds of thousands of people all over this country doing exactly the same thing.

New Hampshire, Guns & Election Day

A tall vibrant looking man in a flannel shirt held his dog back, only slightly, while he asked if we were Jehovah Witnesses or Mormans.When the four of us answered "No" to each question from behind our car's doors, he told us we could approach his house, a beautiful log cabin overlooking fields with a long view of distant Vermont hillsides.
He softened a bit at the sight of Lloyd and Aidan in Obama "Change" t-shirts (the ones they bought in Unity) before telling us that someone had already been to his house twice that week from the campaign. We apologized for the intrusion, explaining that we weren't meant to be duplicating efforts, and he said that the others- a young couple and a two college students had said the same thing. More apologies followed after which he explained that he was a lifetime Republican of 40 years- until this election.
Clipboard in hand, Lloyd asked if he would be voting for the NH democratic candidate for Senate, to which he firmly replied, "No." When he told us that he was voting for Obama however, we all relaxed. He shared how nervous he was about the election and asked us if we thought Obama could win. "Watching the television is making me crazy," he said. We commiserated with him. We didn't have tv.
"You could call your friends or email them," we offered in consolation for his anxiety, "Especially if they live in Pennsylvannia or Ohio."
"That won't help," he explained. "They're all like I used to be... making six figures. They just won't get it."
Aidan offered him some campaign materials which he politely refused before we said our goodbyes on almost friendly terms. Just as he stepped onto his porch, he turned back and asked if anyone needed to use the bathroom. There was a pause and then a "Yes, thank you!" from me whose bladder had been full after the first road we canvassed. He invited everyone in to see the house as Casey had shared that he had wanted to build a log cabin at one time.
His unsuspecting wife was in the kitchen emptying groceries when four strangers poured in through the mudroom. "Just some Jehovah Witnesses," I joked before slipping thankfully into her bathroom. She winced when her husband offered to take Casey and the boys upstairs. "The bed isn't made," she said to derail him, but he headed onward, engaged in a conversation with Casey who had appreciatively noticed his collection of antique pistols.
By the time I was out of the bathroom, she was giving the kids handfuls of leftover Halloween candy and he was pouring everyone lemondaide. They seemed to admire what we were doing for the campaign and held onto this brief connection with us. "It's so great you're doing this, especially with your boys," his wife offered, almost guiltily. My own sons are grown but I called them and reminded them to vote. My oldest works on Wall Street. As she and I talked, her husband invited Casey downstairs to see his WWII machine gun. The boys quickly followed behind. "His brother gave it to him," his wife explained as we discussed how far she had to travel for groceries and how much we both liked the Obama website. When the men returned, we said goodbye, refusing even kinder offers for lunch, and they walked us to door with a warmth typically shared with family. He waved as we pulled down the road and wished us luck.
The next stop was a horsefarm across the road. A man in coveralls told us it was his cidering day, and we offered to make it quick while he dropped apples into the grinder. He politely but firmly refused and his young daughter stared as we drove away up the dirt road. The split level a quarter mile down was the next one on our list and we were almost turned away there too. It was nice day for early November and as we pulled into the driveway, we came across a man strapping a kayak to his Subaru. We hadn't even gotten out of the car before he complained that they had already been visited that week, twice. We apologized and once again explained that we didn't know why they'd send us to the same places. Checking the democratic polling sheet, we asked if we had his name correct, only to discover that it was his son's name that we had down. "This household was divided up until a month ago," he said with some lingering angst. We've always voted Republican. My son is out at sea.
"Oh," we replied cautiously, figuring we were heading into dangerous waters having a political conversation with someone whose son was in the service.
"Not in the service," he said, seemingly reading our faces. He's out on a "Semester at Sea." He pointed to his baseball cap that said, "SEA." He told us all about his son and how he had gotten interested in Marine Biology after a childhood visit to Sea World and how he had combined Psychology with that major to work with dolphins. My other son's in college too. "We're all voting for Obama now," he told us.
"What changed?" we wondered. He spoke of McCain's age and Obama's ability to relate to the people, of Sarah Palin and of the economy. "My friends and I all owned businesses during the Clinton years and we did really well for ourselves, really well. None of us are doing that well now."
We told him that we had heard a similar Republican-Democratic shift from his neighbor up the road. "Who, Stan?" he asked, taken aback. We didn't recall the name and didn't feel right saying who. "The guy with the shooting range?" he pressed increduously while my sons' heads bobbed. My own boys used to go up to his place and shoot, he said. "Wow, Stan's voting for Obama, who would have thought!" he said with a sheepish grin that grew bigger and bigger. "You know, one of the last things that kept me from voting Democratic was that I didn't want to loose my guns." he explained.
"Did something change?" we asked out of curiosity.
"Oh, yeah," he answered. "Biden said that no one is taking away his Glocks "
He went on to reiterate that he wanted a President that could relate to the world and to our day to day lives. He said that Americans needed a wakeup call. He thought we all needed to reconnect with what makes this country great.
Guns aside, we all agreed.

Governor Howard Dean rallies students at UNH

Governor Howard Dean returned to the great state of New Hampshire today to rally students at UNH – Durham. UNH – Durham is the largest university in the state of New Hampshire, so the student population has the potential to play a deciding factor in this upcoming election. With early voting over, students in New Hampshire can still register and vote on Election Day through same day registration. Governor Dean encouraged all the students in attendance to make their voice heard by showing up and registering to vote.

Also appearing at the event were two young women who recently graduated from college themselves – Molly Shaheen (Jeanne Shaheen’s daughter) and Kathleen Shea-Porter (Carol Shea-Porter’s daughter). Governor Dean urged students to not just vote for Senator Obama, but to vote for the whole Democratic ticket, all the way down including former Governor Shaheen and Congresswoman Shea-Porter. Barack will need help as President, and we need to keep New Hampshire blue to give him the Senators and Congressmen he will need to get our country back on track.

Dean told the students assembled that they were taking part in a historic election – one that will witness a passing of the torch -

In many ways this election is similar to the 1960 election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Kennedy was running on a promise of hope and change while Nixon was running as the status quo…and we all know what happened in that election and Kennedy’s historic inauguration.

Madeleine Albright Addresses Veterans and Military Families on the Eve of "the Most Critical Election of our Time"

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, a strong supporter of Senator Barack Obama, met with veterans and military families Tuesday at the Public Library in Portsmouth, NH. Dr. Albright, who teaches at Georgetown University, spoke about our current national security situation and the failure of President Bush's approach to foreign policy over the last eight years. During her remarks, she described what she saw as the major issues facing the next President of the United States, and why she believed Barack Obama was uniquely qualified, in knowledge, demeanor, confidence, and judgment to begin the tough work of solving these complex problems.

Following her remarks she fielded questions from the forty-person audience. She spoke about the need for the United States to begin disengagement in Iraq, both to force the Iraqi government to solve its lingering political issues and so that we can focus on Afghanistan, the real immediate threat to American security. She endorsed Senator Obama's plans for dealing with Iraq through a multilateral regional solution and for intensifying efforts to rebuild Afghanistan and help Pakistan to stabilize itself. Other topics included restoring America's standing in the world, dealing with Iran, the world financial crisis, rethinking the use of the National Guard in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the current and future roles of NATO.

On each issue, Dr. Albright described her views and discussed with the audience Barack Obama's deep thoughtfulness, clear thinking, and confidence to lead our country through these tough times. She said that not only is Senator Obama the right man to address our great concerns abroad, but that he "will talk to us, tell us the truth" so that we as a nation can work together to meet our challenges at home.

A Personal Plea to Canvass

Let's make history together. Can you imagine seeing McCain-Palin winning when you knew you could have done something about it? What's a day off work or an evening compared to THAT???

The single most important way to impact that is to meet face to face with people. Canvassing is the number one way to accomplish that. The campaign has said that collectively over 2,000 folks this past weekend went to New Hampshire. Studies have shown that for every 12 doors you simply knock on is one vote for your candidate. It's easy; just ask them what's important to them and it goes from there! A few minutes with an undecided voter makes all the difference in the world Here's the most important fact.

The last election in New Hampshire was decided by less than 3,000 votes. You may only end up speaking to 2 undecided voters. Even if you can impact just one person; collectively that comes to over 3,000 voters. That can make the difference in us winning New Hampshire.

The next biggest reason to canvass and make phone calls is to support Jeanne Shaheen for US Senate. This is the closet Senate election in the country. The Democrats are close to getting 60 Senate seats. That's why doing all we can to get Shaheen elected is SO VITAL! If you are passionate about OBAMA then he will need every single Senator on his side. That's why we need every single person.

If you want to make sure Obama-Biden is elected, then the biggest way you can affect the vote is to volunteer, doing a variety of tasks. I'm going ALL OUT for the Obama Get Out the Vote. It is so amazing to see so many folks from all over New England Canvassing! I am especially proud of all the Vermonters. Even the candidates from VT and NH and many of the staff get out to bang on doors.

Senator Clinton Returns to the Granite State!

Today, Hillary Clinton returned to New Hampshire for the first time since her rally in Unity with Senator Obama back in June. She was welcomed with open arms by raucous crowds which greeted her in Manchester and Pelham. With the election only a week away, Hillary Clinton came to the Granite State to let everyone know why she is working so hard to elect Senator Obama to the White House.

Her first event was at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. She was introduced by former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen who is running for Senate against incumbent John Sununu. To get our country moving on the right track, Senator Obama will need Jeanne Shaheen in the Senate, so help elect her and Barack Obama by working as hard as you can this last week.

Hillary spoke passionately about the issues affecting our country - lack of access to health care, high energy prices, failing schools, and the sense of malaise sweeping the country due to the financial crisis. Hillary told the Granite State that a vote for McCain is a vote for more of the same and four more years of George W. Bush. She closed by urging all of her supporters from the primary to go out and work and vote for the Democratic ticket up and down the ballot.

MANCHESTER-- Former Vermont governor and current chairman of the Democratic National Committee Howard Dean will be in New Hampshire this Thursday, October 30th for a Rally for Change. With just over a week until New Hampshire voters head to the polls, Gov. Dean will stress the incredibly high stakes of the election for young voters and encourage them to vote. Dean will also discuss Sen. Obama's plan to create jobs and improve the state of our economy so that young Granite Staters can successfully enter the workforce upon graduation.

Earlier today, the Obama campaign in New Hampshire released a list of 50 New Hampshire student leaders who are not only supporting Sen. Obama's Campaign for Change, but are working on campuses to elect former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, and Congressman Paul Hodes. Field Blog #16: Sandwich Fair in Central NH

Earlier this month, local Democrats flooded Central New Hampshire for the annual Sandwich Fair. Shaw, a local teacher and Obama fan, reported that foot traffic past the Democratic booth was awesome. According to Shaw, the Sandwich Democrats had wonderful support and enthusiasm from a crowd that some estimated at 10,000 people for the weekend. Folks loaded up on their favorite Obama gear, picked up information on volunteer opportunities with their Local Field Office, and educated themselves on all of the down-ticket Democratic candidates.

Shaw explained that the Sandwich Fair is a traditional agricultural fair that has been running annually for well over a century. It features an old fashion midway with rides as well as events like tractor pulls, oxen twitching, and show horse jumping. Dozens of farm animals are carefully groomed and judged- you'll find everything from chickens and rabbits, to cattle and llamas, to goats and ducks. As with most fairs, food is a big draw too. Blue ribbons are awarded for the best apple pie, top blueberry jam, biggest pumpkin, and most beautiful quilt - just to name a few.

Although Sandwich sits in one of the more rural sections of the state, local residents can volunteer at one of the four Obama Field Offices up north. Whether you only have an hour on a weeknight for some data entry or a couple hours for neighborhood canvassing or phone calls, we need you. Obama-rama at the 2008 Keene Pumpkin Festival

I just visited the 2008 Keene Pumpkin Festival in New Hampshire, and Obama-rama was in full swing with gorgeous gourds and plump pumpkins decorated in support of Barack Obama. There were portraits of Barack Obama cut-out and etched into pumpkins and supportive phrases cut-out in others. There were even funny takes on the Republican opponents as one pumpkin was carved with a wink and a "You Betcha" sign (the next pumpkin to the right appeared to be laughing at this pumpkin!). It was a unique festive experience that I will never forget!

Field Blog #15: Kendal Seniors for Obama

Nestled in the beautiful landscape of Hanover, NH, the Kendal retirement community is renowned for its active, engaged senior residents. A dedicated group of Obama campaign volunteers from Kendal demonstrates why this reputation is well-deserved.

For several weeks now, Kendal residents have been holding their own phone bank for Obama out of their residences, with Edie taking the lead in organizing their efforts. The dedicated group has proven to be quite a force in reaching out to New Hampshire voters throughout the state, smashing their own calling records and earning a special trophy from campaign staff (seen below).

How do they do it? Each morning, Edie's pie basket (also seen below) appears with fresh calling packets for volunteers to pick up. By evening, packets are returned to the pie basket to be picked up by staffers for data entry. The next day, the process starts again, and hundreds of calls are made.

Hats off to our great team of Kendal volunteers!

Three More Granite State Newspapers Endorse Obama Yesterday

The Valley News, The Keene Sentinel, and the Portsmouth Herald all endorsed Barack Obama yesterday, adding to New Hampshire's strong backing of Senator Obama and the endorsements of the Cabinent Press, the Concord Monitor and the Nashua Telegraph last week.

Excerpt from the Valley News:

As we see it, one of the two big questions this year is, whatever happened to John McCain? That the proud Republican maverick of previous years now bears the W. brand -- tax cuts for the rich, unbridled enthusiasm for offshore oil drilling and so on -- is puzzling to many of his longtime admirers (including members of this editorial board), as is his abandonment of sensible immigration reform.

Excerpt from the Keene Sentinel:

We can decide to continue down the path we have all been on since 2000, with a new leader who may be somewhat more broadminded and rational than his predecessor. Or, better yet, we can opt for a change in direction, with an articulate leader who offers imaginative new alternatives to failed policies at home and a reversal of the United States' growing isolation on the world stage.

Granite State Sportsmen for Obama Fired Up for Change

MANCHESTER, NH - In the midst of hunting season, Sportsmen and women across New Hampshire have joined together to announce their support for Senator Barack Obama for president. This announcement comes as hunters throughout the Granite State carry on the tradition of hunting from generation to generation during Youth Hunt Weekend for Deer, which is October 25-26 across the state.

"Growing up in New Hampshire, most of us spent our time outdoors hunting, fishing or hiking. These traditions were passed down from mothers and fathers to their children. Danzig, Former Sec. of the Navy, visits Obama Seacoast Office

Richard Danzig, former Secretary of the Navy under President Clinton, visited our Portsmouth Campaign for Change office to meet and talk with Seacoast veterans. Danzig, a strong supporter of Senator Obama, was in town for the commissioning of the USS New Hampshire.

Danzig spoke to veterans and volunteers in the office about the connection between working on a political campaign and serving in the military. He said that both offer a chance for two people who have never met each other to have an instant bond and sense of comrade.

Danzig, who was in Ohio and Virginia recently, said that New Hampshire is one of the most important states in this election. With his words of encouragement, the volunteers and veterans headed off to knock on doors and make phone calls. He encouraged everyone to sign up for a GOTV shift.

Actor Jeffrey Wright: We're all in this together

Over two hundred people registered this morning at the Manchester City Hall, as a diverse crowd of gathered to chat, dance, listen to music, and hear Actor Jeffrey Wright ("W", Syriana, Casino Royale) speak about coming together to create one nation seeking change.

I look around me, wherever I go at Obama events, and I see the complexity of America represented in the faces of the people around me at these events. You know, a lot of what's happened in the last few months has been to narrow the vision of America down to Hockey Moms and Joe Six Packs and Joe the Plumbers. But America's more complicated than that. There's Jose the Barber. There's basketball big brothers. We're all here together and its we who make this country great.

Wight recently played Colin Powell in the movie "W", and spoke about Powell's endorsement of Barack last Sunday.

[Powell] talked about how the strength of this country is in our diversity, the strength of this country is in its complexity. Colin Powell himself was born from immigrant parents from Jamaica. That's the story of our country. And when we start to exclude, at such critical times as these in terms of America's place on the global stage, when we seek to exclude whole sections of the population as we try to face these challenges we undermine our capacity to really overcome them.

Although today marks the last day to early register, if you live in New Hampshire you can still register and vote at the polls on Election Day.

"Getting people to register the day of is a great opportunity," Wright said. "You've got to find these pockets, these pools of people to register."

Obama campers, don't forget "Dewey Wins!"

Most polling now shows Obama pulling ahead of McCain. But could the pollsters be showing us an instant replay of the erroneous polling they did in January for the New Hampshire primary?

Remember the primary contest early this year, where the pollsters all got it wrong? Or, maybe Hillary Clinton's tears turned the tide. Who really knows? That's my point.

Here's what Barack Obama told supporters in Virginia a few days ago:

We are 18 days away from changing this country. 18 days! But for those of you who are getting a little cocky, who support me, and start reading the polls. I just got two words for you: New Hampshire. Everybody thought we were going to win them in the Primary. We were up 10 in the polls, day before the election, and we ended up losing. We were up in Texas and Ohio in the Primary, we ended up losing. You can't pay attention to the
polls. We've got to keep making our case for change. We've got to keep fighting for every vote. We've got to keep running through the finish line. This election is too important. We can't take anything for granted. The future that you seek and I seek for our children is too important to let up now. The time for change has come. We can do this. Americans have done it before but I need you to stand up. Stand up for change! I need you to make phone calls, I need you to do a blackberry, I need you to talk to your friends and yours neighbors. And if you all work with me, and organize with me, we will not just not win Virginia, we will win this general election. And, you and I together we gonna change this country and change the world. Events on the ground sometimes change results, and other times polling is just not good enough to predict an outcome.

Are the Polls Accurate? (Michael Barone, WS)

The Obama campaign organization certainly has built an impressive force of boots on the ground. Paid and volunteer Obama workers essentially have realized the "50-state strategy" championed by DNC Chair Howard Dean. They have challenged McCain throughout the country.

Now it's up to that army of supporters to deliver. If they are to succeed in these final days, they'll need both blindfolds and earplugs to block out the good news for Obama coming from pollsters.

Two Words- Election Fraud

For as long as this election season has been going on it only seems like it was yesterday when the New Hampshire primary took place, but it happened way back in January. The New Hampshire primary followed a strong win by Obama over Clinton in the Iowa caucus. Polls showed that Obama was about to win Big on the day before an event that Obama now identifies as a succinct warning, "Two Words."

Well, New Hampshire is indeed "Two Words" but if you ask Dennis Kucinich what "Two Words" he would use to describe what happened nine months ago in New Hampshire he might just reply with, "Election Fraud."

I'm not talking about the registration shenanigans that ACORN has been fighting. I am talking about illegally switching votes, stealing votes, flipping votes, caging voters, or any method used to discount or deny a person's vote. Election Fraud.

In the New Hampshire primary Barack Obama did better than Hillary Clinton in the districts where votes were hand-counted, 52 to 47 percent. However, in the districts that used the famous Diebold optical scanners, it was the exact opposite, 52 to 47 percent. Dennis Kucinich was rightfully astounded by the results so much that he demanded a recount! Sadly, since he lost more than 3 points the law required him to pay for a recount.

Edward Felton a Princeton University computer scientist who has a YouTube video showing his study that Diebold's touch screen machines are easily corruptible, said at the time that demographics were to blame for the discrepancy. His explanation was that the rural districts used hand-counting and that rural people supported Obama. He adds that the larger urban cities preferred Clinton and those areas used the optical scanners. This, again was Felton's idea of why Clinton won by a margin that was pretty much the exact opposite of the polls held the day before.

With all that is being discovered and what has already been common knowledge about Election Fraud, could this be a "Two Word" call to all voters, by Obama, to get up, get out, and vote?

See, Obama has issued a letter to the DOJ to investigate all the illegal Election Fraud that is occurring in Ohio and other swing states. He also would like the DOJ to look into a Republican collaboration to feign astonishment for what ACORN has done with voter registration. Anyone who knows about the ACORN case knows that ACORN is clean and have done nothing to fraudulently steal or manipulate VOTES. The only reason ACORN is being made an issue by the Republicans is because when Obama and the Democrats urge investigations for actual Election Fraud, they will have already numbed the public with this over-play and lament, "Oh, now the Democrats are griping about this because they lost, where were they on this issue when they were winning?"

Can't you see that line?

At the same time Barack has an army of lawyers manning swing states for any sign of caging or voter intimidation. Now, with his call for us to not be complacent and to get out the vote, he is essentially flooding the system with voters. Is the answer for another stolen election to be multi-faceted? Yes, and at that, let go of the traditional Democratic response to stolen elections, @!$%#ing.

Now is the time to do our part and contact the DOJ, write letters to newspapers, call your Secretary of State (because they have taken internet access off-line in Ohio. At a time we need them most, they close their doors) and demand that they stop this Election Fraud. We have the numbers.

How to Decipher CHANGE to Undecided Voters. (Helpful for Phone Calls)

Introduce voters to CHANGE.

Obama in this campaign offers change in its most absolute way: change from failed policies but also change in terms of opening a new page which will burry the racial divide in this country. That change, as exciting as it sounds, needs to be defined so it doesn't scare older and less informed people, into voting for Obama. Change should not be perceived as ‘the unknown’ but “the fundamental”

You guys need to emphasize the long terms effect of Change so they understand the impact their vote will have on their children and future generations.

In terms of communicating race, I think you need to confront racism in a very considerate way so people understand this is not about electing the first African American president in history but electing the one who has the judgement to lead us out of this financial turmoil.
(Insist on the numbers: over 600,000 jobs lost)

When someone tells you the only reason why they wouldn't support Barack Obama is because he is black, tell them “this is not about Obama, this is about you and your children”.

When someone tells you, I like Sarah Palin tell them, “I hate to break it to you but chances are you're never going to sit with her. Once these elections are over, whoever wins will be presiding from the White House, and what will strictly matter then on are the ways in which their policies are going to affect your life, your children. Children can't vote but the impact of your vote, will be part of the legacy you are going to leave them.”

Talk about the power of democracy. (Insist on everything they are going against by supporting the McCain Palin ticket)

If we have a democracy today where women can vote it is because:

Þ Democratic President Woodrow Wilson stood up for Change in 1918 in support of the 19th amendment which forbid any state to deny any woman a right to political expression.

Þ It is the Democratic Party that promulgated Hillary to almost becoming the first female president.

Þ Sarah Palin goes against every thing Hillary has ever fought for:

Þ she is on a ticket which rejects Equal Pay for women.

Þ Insist on the fact that there are 10.4 million single moms in the United States who live with children younger than 18, up from 3.4 million in 1970 and that today more than ever, we need to support those moms so they can have a decent lifestyle and give to their children a sense of education. You can't say you support those women if you stand against equal pay and you stand against raising the minimum wage.

Þ And make the case that if you support the McCain-Palin ticket, you are also denying those proud American citizens the right to a better existence.

The Democratic Party never stopped fighting for the women's rights.

Þ In 1994, President Clinton provided $1.6 billion to enhance investigation and prosecution of the violent crime perpetrated against women by signing the Violence Against Women Act, which John McCain firmly opposed.

Þ This VAWA was drafted by Joe Biden who now runs on the democratic ticket as VP

Þ It is thanks to Biden that domestic violence became a public health policy and human rights concern. (You need to insist on that)

Þ According the National Organization for Women, which stepped out of its usual neutrality to proudly endorse the Obama-Bide ticket, every day in America:

Þ Four women die as a result of domestic violence bringing the number to 1,400 women a year.

Þ two to four million women of all races and classes are battered each year, and 170,000 of those violent incidents are serious enough to require hospitalization

Thanks to Joe Biden, this has become a real human rights concern.

If Hillary Clinton chooses to put pride aside and step up for a "rally for change" it is because she understands the vital necessity to all be on the road for Barack Obama.

By helping each others, women pave the way for their daughters, granddaughters in ensuring that they won't be denied any fundamental human rights.

As you know, many of these women are affected by the economy crisis and for McCain to stand firm and say that he won't raise the minimum wage is simply unacceptable when he supports sending 10bn$ monthly in US taxpayers' money to a country which has an 80bn $ surplus.

Yes, the war in Iraq needs to end and it will end under the presidency of Barack Obama.

Painting the surge as having worked does not take away the fact that this war, which killed 4,152 (as of September 3rd 2008) and wounded 30,568 American soldiers should have never been authorized. Isn’t it fair to remind people that 600, 000 Iraqi civilians, who had absolutely nothing to do with September 11th, were also killed in this war, along with thousands of other soldiers and journalists.

Careless of all the critics Obama has heard on his experience and position against the war, "soldiers have donated more presidential campaign money to Democrat Barack Obama than to Republican John McCain, a reversal of previous campaigns in which military donations tended to favor GOP White House hopefuls, a nonpartisan group reported Thursday", according to USA Today. (8/14/2008)

Yes, soldiers are putting their trust in Obama and so should we when it comes to handling the economy and the foreign policy of this country.

So when John McCain says he is going to fight, ask yourself for what…or better yet, against what? Is he going to keep fighting against the elements so desperately needed for Change, like funding for education, funding for healthcare…?

John McCain doesn’t have a record to claim that he can bring real change. What has long years in Washington ever brought to a candidate? If it mattered so much why is Palin in a position which puts her heart bit away from the presidency, when more experienced Republican candidates are available? If he just wanted to rally the right wing base, he could have chosen Huckabee, if he cared about the economy, he would have appointed Romney but instead he opted for someone with absolutely O experience.

Are you ready to have Palin as President and take a 10% risk of having change? Well after all, McCain voted 90% of the time with Bush and a 100% in 2008.

If Obama wins, America wins and therefore you win.

You should have banners saying If Obama wins, America wins / If Obama wins, you win.

Vivian is one of New Hampshire’s most enduring supporters of Barack Obama. Having met Barack at an event just a few months after he announced his candidacy, Vivian decided on the first-term senator from Illinois over the deep field of Democratic candidates. There was something in the way he talked to her—cool, intelligent, and thoughtful—that led Vivian to believe that he would change the way things had been going in recent years.

Perhaps one of the most persuasive people to set foot in the Nashua office, she has been known to turn an undecided voter into a full-fledged supporter while managing to schedule them to do repair work at her house the next weekend. She knocks on car windows while holding signs at intersections and poses tough questions about jobs and health care to McCain-stickered cars. She volunteers at every event in the area, whether it is a rally for Barack Obama himself or the last-minute organizational meeting before a big week of campaigning.

Just recently, in the wake of the collapse of finance giant Lehman Brothers, Vivian’s employer downsized its operation. The most recent hire, Vivian found herself at the bottom of the seniority ladder, and management had to let her go.

Tears still in her eyes, the first stop Vivian made after losing her job was our field office. With her usual big smile and eagerness to help out, she announced that she was going to have a few more hours to offer the campaign on top of her already substantial volunteering schedule. She proceeded to her usual position at the head of our phone bank, laughing in her usual way, but this time, with just a bit more determined than usual. Vivian McGuire is a constant reminder to all of us here in the Nashua office why we need change and why we need Barack Obama.

Great Day of Canvasing in New Hampshire

On Saturday, we had a busload of people from New Bedford, Taunton and Lowell that traveled to New Hampshire to canvas, make phone calls and do visibilities for Barack. What a sight when we arrived. All told, there were upwards of 600 people hailing from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and of course New Hampshire that all came together to fan out through Nashua to knock on doors and to make calls asking people if they were supporting Barack Obama. Plus, we were tallying support for Jeanne Shaheen for Senate and Paul Hodes for Congress.

The way in which everything was organized - canvasing packets, hospitality (food, coffee, beverages) and a rally which hosted Sen. Kerry and Rep. Paul Hodes - was impressive. The most exciting aspect was that when I spoke with other volunteers that did canvasing, they all said that among the voters they contacted more of those that expressed a preference were supporting Barack Obama. I know that all our effort to reach out to voters will make the difference on November 4.

If you're looking for an opportunity to volunteer for Barack, a bus from New Bedford goes up to New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 26 and again on Nov. 1. I'll forward contact information if you need it. It's best to reserve a seat. The bus was filled up last Saturday.

Two Major Newspaper Endorsements for Obama in New Hampshire

Both the Nashua Telegraph and the Concord Monitor's editorial boards endorsed Barack today, echoing Barack's support among Granite Staters.

Today, we endorse Barack Obama in his historic bid to become the 44th president of the United States of America. At this critical point in the nation's 232-year history, the young senator from Illinois is the right person at the right time to lead this country back to its former greatness and standing in the world community.

At first, like many Americans, our initial attraction to Obama as a presidential candidate was influenced by his extraordinary speaking skills, which he has used to inspire millions all across the country.

But we were equally impressed when we met with him a little more than a year ago in the TV studios of Nashua High School South. (The video is available for viewing at www.nhprimary.com).

The choice could not be clearer. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois should be this nation's next president. As the first African American to hold the highest office in the land, Obama would make history and instantly remake America's image abroad. But that is not why he deserves to win. Obama has the temperament, judgment, ideas and vision to be president. Despite his decades of experience and heroic history, John McCain is not the right candidate for this moment.

No decision highlights this difference more starkly than McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Unlike Obama's choice for vice president, Sen. Joe Biden, Palin is unqualified, profoundly so, to hold either of the nation's top two offices.

Obama's considerable skills are augmented by his intelligence and his ability to inspire. All of that will be necessary to tackle problems that have grown to seem insurmountable over the past eight years. Serious people are talking about the end of America's supremacy as the world's leading economic power. The nation's young assume that they will not be as well-off as their parents. Unless the nation changes course quickly, their parents fear they could be right.

Barack drew thousands of people to Mack's Apple's today in Londonderry, NH to listen to him speak about the Obama-Biden plan for change, the day after the final presidential debate. He spoke of the dire need for change in this country, and why we must keep fighting to make this change happen.

Well, New Hampshire, last night we had a debate. I think you saw a bit of the McCain attack strategy in action. But here's what Senator McCain doesn't seem to understand. With the economy in turmoil and the American Dream at risk, the American people don't want to hear politicians attack each other - you want to hear about how we're going to attack the challenges facing middle class families each and every day. Field report: The difference in Rochester NH

The distance between the Republican and the Democratic campaign offices in Rochester NH is only a few feet. On opposite sides of North Main Street you can actually peer between the campaign signs from one camp's window into the other. The difference between the two offices is the volunteers, the people like you who fill the Obama office while the McCain office sits empty. Monday afternoon as I waited to go canvassing, I took a walk across the street to the McCain office. My plan was not to antagonize the McCain campaign. I was interested to see their office and the literature they hand out. It is good to know your opponent.

Yesterday was a perfect introduction to grassroots campaign work. Great autumn weather, a good canvassing partner, and an excellent overview of the tools we use to coordinate voter contact. I learned lots of new terminology like "cut turf" and "voter universe" and other fun things.

The Littleton location is a "coordinated campaign" office and today I worked primarily with the Field Organizer for Jean Shaheen's Senatorial bid. Ostensibly Jim's responsible for activities in that area to get her elected, but since we're trying to take advantage of Obama's potential coattails the canvassing work really ties the two candidates together along with the local Congressional incumbent, Paul Hodes. The Obama FO is now pretty much focusing effort elsewhere in his region and wasn't there today, so Jim and I are trying to figure out my exact role at this office. Hey, there's 22 days left to do that!

Mostly the day was dedicated to canvassing. We had a few folks out there, including a couple of Vermonters walking in Whitefield whose canvass packets we picked up at the posh Mountain View Grand Resort (just happened to be a convenient meeting point). Jim and I went out together, taking areas that were less-convenient and less-walkable, leaving the volunteers with better sections (you do whatever you can to accomodate the most important people in the campaign).

As we set out we guessed it was so nice that many people would be out and about, but we did get some good contacts. No doors slammed in our faces, though there was one older gent who told us he was sick of the visitors and all the TV ads, and adamantly averred that "it was his vote and he had no reservations about it." We marked him down as "refused (to indicate preference)." Oh, then there was the lady who opened her door 45 degrees, pushed it to about 20 degrees when we said we were canvassing for Obama/Shaheen, then when we asked if she'd made up her mind about the election yet, said, "NO!" and closed it forcefully (but not slammingily). And these are the "persuadables"!

Lots of other nice people chatted with us for several minutes. A guy on a tractor who is voting for McCain (doesn't like Obama because of gun control, though we tried to disabuse him of his notions) and Democratic downticket (and he indicated his wife was, too, after she waved and escaped back into the house). His dog Buddy followed us for a half mile down the road, before he started getting his ass kicked by a little Scottie and a Dachsund. Their humans said they'd get him back up the hill.

A woman and her mother who were "just on the way out" but spoke about Obama sounding to much like MLK, McCain being too old, votes don't matter, the bailout, and heating fuel costs (I comiserated)--I bumped into the older lady and her grandson at a convenience store later and joked we were following her until she voted for Obama, and she laughed (she sounded receptive previously). The dude who decided to vote for Obama weeks ago, but is undecided on the Senate race even though he knows John Sununu. Another older man who's not registered which his wife brought up, observing that the first step to change our direction is to do so--everytime he said Obama didn't have enough experience, this "undecided" lady admonished him that Barack has plenty of experience and smarts, and would surround himself with good people.

And a few others. All told, we only got a couple dozen doors knocked given the spread out, rural nature of our turf, but that's 2 more votes according to the usual estimates, no matter what the outcome of the individual contacts was.

Back at the office I met Martha McLeod, current NH House member now running for State Senate. Nice lady who apparently takes controversial stands that makes people either love her or hate her. A Democrat with spine.

So my ankle's sore, my throat hurts (recovering from the flu and a and I'm wicked tired, and it was a wonderful day. I wasn't originally supposed to be starting this weekend, but I was chomping at the bit to get into the field and I'm so glad I did. Now I'm looking forward to more--a bit of baptism by fire is good for the soul.

Field Blog #7: Jovanna from Keene

It is not about how much time one gives to a cause; it is how they use that time. This rings especially true for Jovanna from Keene. Jovanna is a self-proclaimed townie. She grew up in the heart of Cheshire County with her parents, younger sister and grandparents—her grandfather came from Italy in the early 1900s and got his citizenship when he enlisted during WWI. Jovanna says that her parents are the reason she is a liberal Democrat, but not for the reasons one would think. Her father vigorously guards his right to remain an independent voter, but tends to lean towards the right. (In a recent email, however, he told Jovanna not to assume he was voting for McCain. “He always votes for the best… so that means Obama, right?”) Jovanna’s parents and grandparents instilled the values that make her who she is today: the world should be fair and just, and one must look upon another for who they are, not what they are or where they are from.

Jovanna belongs to the Keene State class of 1988, where she majored in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. In her final year, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Jovanna was sick for a very long time and has had complications from the disease that have hindered her eyesight and given her some significant foot problems. She is completely dependent on insulin injections. For a long time Jovanna had to use needles, which are very painful, inconsistent and, frankly, annoying. She now has an insulin pump which makes the process more exact and less time consuming, but she says she is extremely lucky to have Medicare to pay for it. Others, she says, are not as lucky and their health is suffering for it.

Jovanna is now back at Keene State getting her Masters degree in Health Science, Nutrition Option. She wants to be a dietitian. In addition to her classes, she holds a job at a local limousine company and volunteers for the Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention. The center tries to empower women that need support and a life of their own without violence and fear. Somewhere, somehow, Jovanna finds the time to come in to our office every Thursday night for three hours to make calls for us. She is an all-star. Her good-heartedness and bubbly personality effectively resonate with the people she talks to, even over the phone.

At eight o’clock—on the dot—every Thursday evening, Jovanna’s boyfriend picks her up outside our office. Troy is not the most politically active person, but he loves the fact that Jovanna is. Even after a long day of work, he stays up with Jovanna to watch the conventions, debates and an episode or two of Saturday Night Live. Jovanna has voted in five presidential elections in her life. This is the first one with which she has been involved. This is the first one with a candidate that she truly believes can make an astonishing difference in our country’s path and stature in the world.

I urge everyone to find your Local Field Office, if you haven’t already, and see what you can get involved. You do not need a great deal of time, just an hour or two once a week helps. Come in, meet our staff and core of volunteers, and get involved—make some calls, enter some data or just feed us. This campaign, more than any other, believes that it is every one of you who is going to get the Senator from Illinois elected and make the change we need.

Field Blog #6: Martha from Portsmouth.

Originally from Highland Park, Illinois, Martha has lived in Portsmouth, New Hampshire since 2000. Martha is an independent voter and she had never worked on a political campaign before walking into the Portsmouth Campaign for Change Office in September.

Though new to the campaign lifestyle, Martha picked up the pace and details right away and has since become an integral part of the office. Now a Data Entry Volunteer Captain, Martha comes in four times a week to help teach new volunteers how to enter data, while also navigating the sometimes treacherous and confusing road that is data entry. She has recruited other volunteers, including her son Garrett, who has very little free time between school and athletic commitments, but still manages to come in on Sundays to help us get in all of our information from our weekend canvasses.

Martha is a prime example of the people who fuel our Barack Obama and Joe Biden's Campaign for Change. Without her leadership, we would be swamped every day, but because of her commitment and her positivity, we are able to continue moving forward!

Field Blog #4: Fern from Nashua

For my blog post, I would like to introduce a truly remarkable part of our campaign, and dare I say a big reason why Barack Obama is going to win here Nashua. Her name is Fern. She lives here in Ward 1, and she works her heart out for the campaign. A mother of two delightful children and a guidance counselor at a local high school, she makes time to knock on doors every Saturday and Sunday, makes phone calls two evenings a week, throws fantastic house parties, and hosts Yours Truly in her home. She brings sumptuous meals to the office, feeds me vitamins when I’m sick, and sends her children out to hold signs at 7 AM in the morning.

She even sends her retired father up from Massachusetts to help out with the campaign during his free time. How does she do it? Where does the energy come from? What makes this dynamo tick?

But when I asked her, all she has to say on the matter is, “I do what I can.”

Fern, through her tenacity and intelligence, is able to do more than most. Not only does she go the extra mile, but the second, third, and fourth thereafter. She is an inspiration. But her answer to my question should tell us all exactly what it will take to win in November, and it has much less to do with the volume of work volunteers can do than the willingness to engage in the first place. In amongst a busy schedule and time spent with her family, she does the work Barack Obama and Joe Biden need to get done in order to bring about meaningful change in Washington DC. It’s not how much you do, it’s that you do it.

If you have just a small window of time in your schedule every week to visit our office and follow Fern’s lead, that will get us one step closer to winning on November 4th. You—through knocking those doors, making those calls, and talking to your neighbors—can bring about the change we so desperately need. I say it again: you.

My Detailed 2008 Election Predictions for All 50 States

My Detailed 2008 Presidential Election Predictions!

You can check out your own state and see how every demographic group will likely break down in this election.

Today I made some minor changes to my predictions after news broke that McCain was abandoning his Michigan campaign, and putting resources into Indiana and Pennsylvania. I also made some very minor changes to Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio after looking at some new polling data. These changes were minor and did not change the eventual electoral outcome in any of the states, but instead solidified Obama's lead in those states.

Let me first explain how these election projections were made. Each State was carefully researched for the most recent census and other important demographic data. Using State by State U.S. Census data I broke down the state by Gender, Race, Party Affiliation, Age, Education Level, and Religion.

Using a complex formula I did the following, I created a Demographic profile of individuals. (ex. Men-White-Democrat-18 to 44-College Educated-Catholic) There were about 216 Different Demographic Groups represented.

Next I created a two part formula, the first was issue oriented, the second demographic oriented based on CNN Election 2004 Exit Polls.(http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/) The issues represented a wide variety of issues from Women's Issues, to Urban and Rural Issues, Foreign Policy and Economic Policy. I also included cultural issues such as Gun Rights and Racial Issues.

By answering a series of Yes/No Questions regarding those issues, I assigned specific numerical values to each question either Negative (liberal) or Positive (conservative).

On the Demographic formula I assigned importance based on exit polls from CNN. For instance Party is more important than Age or Gender. Race is more important than Gender etc.

The end result is a formula that is about 90%-95% accurate. I double checked the results against Exit Poll Data from 2004, and they match up remarkably well. Political Party numbers do tend to be under-represented in my formulas but do match up fairly accurately, and do balance out in the end. I used Exit Poll data, and numbers of Democrats and Republicans in the state legislatures to determine likely voter models for each political party.

HERE ARE THE FINAL RESULTS:

I project that Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States!

I project that Barack Obama will win with 338 Electoral Votes to John McCain's 200 Electoral Votes. (270 needed to win)

Obama will win 26 States and the District of Columbia. McCain will win 24 States.

Obama will win 51.12% of the Total Popular Vote; 67,531,664 - 338 Electoral Votes

McCain will win 47.03% of the Total Popular Vote; 62,130,227 - 200 Electoral Votes

Nader, McKinney, Barr and others will win 1.86% of the Vote; 2,451,238 - 0 Electoral Votes

TOTAL VOTES: 132,113,129 - 538 Electoral Votes

Projected difference between Obama and McCain: +4.09%

First of all good morning and I hope everything is going well.

On Saturday, October 11th, Congressman Neal has been asked to head up to New Hampshire to help the Obama campaign. The Neal campaign is organizing people and buses to drive up to Keene, NH. We will be leaving @ 9AM from Springfield and Northampton. What we need you to do is send people our way who are interested in catching a ride. This will allow us to collect data and then use that data to determine the location, time, and feasibility of the buses. We have filled one bus as of this morning with college students and members of SEIU. We will also have at least another 25-30 Neal supporters traveling up there on this day as well.

Congressman Neal is 'billing' this day as Western Massachusetts day in order to pump up some constituents and voters in the area. We would greatly appreciate any assistance in organizing this.

The location of where to pick up volunteers will be determined once we find out where the majority of volunteers are coming from. Right now the important thing is to generate rsvp's and interest. Then we will order the buses.

If this goes well, we will also be doing it the weekend before the election.

Game Time

It's game time. On the heels of Friday's debate, I headed up to New Hampshire for my first stumping of the general election.

Our enthusiastic group left for our "sister" city of Concord, NH. We were assigned to a new staging area just across the street from Concord Airport (who knew Concord had an airport, with Manchester Airport just down the highway). It was organized chaos.

The lot was already full of volunteer cars. We were warned by a volunteer that it was a bit of a zoo inside, but that wasn't the case. A clear check-in process yielded my first list of doors to hit. There was a treasure trove of donated food, including brown bag lunches.

The staff was awesome. Always asking if they could help, quickly giving me a new list when I volunteered for a bigger one, loudly and clearly giving instructions to newbies. Had a great chat with a staffer who had just been re-assigned to NH from Alaska--as he said, Alaska's not really in play anymore . :)

Partnered with a great woman who is very politically astute and a long-time organizer, we quickly got to our neighborhood and fanned out. This general election canvass felt very different than the primary. People were much more engaged, some almost anxious to speak about issues. I even had a few detailed policy discussions (something that never happened in the primary), spending most of my efforts leading discussions back to the economy.

Our turf was firmly middle-class. People are genuinely concerned about how they'll pay for fuel this winter, cleaning up the mess on Wall Street and how they can afford spiraling medical costs. Obama needs to win these sorts of neighborhoods to win New Hampshire.

In our turf of 100 houses, there's a large number of undecideds. It's critical that informed, polite volunteers speak to these voters and help swing them to Obama.

The disinformation campaigns we read about are real. I had two voters (after ten minutes or so of conversation) ask me point blank if Obama is Muslim. I was gratified that they felt comfortable enough to ask me the question--I suspect in their circles of daily conversations it is taken as fact that Obama is not Christian.

Obama supporters have to get out there and help take these false arguments off the table--as I said to numerous voters, voters should make their decisions on what's best for our country and related policies, not based on distractions and falsehoods.

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson in New Hampshire this week

Tuesday, Governor Bill Richardson was in New Hampshire for three Town Hall events. He started off his day in Manchester at Southern New Hampshire University where he fired up the crowd of students, faculty, and community members. He spoke about the Obama-Biden plan for foreign policy, the current economic crisis, and energy independence. Richardson told the crowd that Obama was against huge golden parachutes to corporate CEO’s, would make the concerns of Main Street a priority in his Administration, and that Obama believed the current financial crisis required bipartisan oversight.

Next, he spoke to a group of Latinos in Nashua on the importance of electing Barack Obama the next President. He stressed that Senator Obama understood the concerns of Latinos and would fight for health care for all, immigration reform, and economic development. Richardson told the crowd that Barack has a long history of standing up for Latino’s going all the way back to his community organizer days on Chicago’s South Side. Si se puede! Personal Message to Food Tasters and Tips for Using Online Tools

Dear Food Tasters for Obama -

I wanted you to know that I am leaving this weekend to work (yes, I'm "coming out of retirement") for the Obama campaign in Ohio, and will be there through election day. For all of you who have kindly encouraged my blogging (my archive is here), this will explain my silence beginning September 22. During my absence, other carefully chosen administrators will assure this group's continued existence and maintain its selective standards for messaging, and the posting of events and blogs, to provide you only with the most enlightened and entertaining material.

Last Saturday I went to Manchester NH to help at the Obama rally (8000 people turned out!) and to canvass the working class neighborhood on the west side of town. Not surprisingly after these past few weeks and recent polls, I met many concerned voters. The number one question I heard was: "Can we win this?" The answer is definitely "Yes we can." But it will require Obama supporters to get involved. You've seen by now that John McCain will do and say anything to get elected, including his selection of an unvetted running mate who he had only met once before. And McCain is backed by Bush's political team for whom all tactics are fair game. So your vote alone just may not be enough this year. And you know from the last two elections that the religious right in this country knows how to get its voters to cast their ballots for the Republican candidate.

This election will be decided in crucial battleground state, like Ohio and New Hampshire. But the ground game is the same in all 50 states. There are three practical objectives in the remaining weeks: 1) register voters, 2) identify Obama supporters, and 3) get-out-the-vote (GOTV) either absentee, early or on election day. These tasks are labor intensive. If you cannot get away to NH or another swing state, there are activities scheduled almost daily at your nearest Obama campaign office. If you have not yet tried them, I've included at the bottom of this message suggestions on how to use the campaign's online tools from home. So you have no excuse not to participate actively.

There is one other thing I want to ask of you, especially if you have not yet done so or can do more. And that is Donate. I have not bothered you about this, but I am only asking you (US citizens and Residents only) to do what I and over two and a half million others have already done. So please go to my fundraising page on my.barackobama.com, click on "donate", and make a contribution of any amount you'd like, from $5 to $2300. You may not have agreed with the campaign's decision to forgo public financing. But the Republicans have already demonstrated that current public finance laws do not reduce the influence of lobbyist and special interest money on the electoral process. And the Obama campaign has proven that it manages its finances responsibly. So consider this a good investment in getting our country back on the right track.

Finally, make sure to register and vote. Voting early is now available and easy in most states. Take advantage of the online voter registration tool, ensure that your registration is up to date and make your vote count!

Obama is everything the Democrats have been waiting for, and we're all right to feel empowered, enthused, and confident about our candidate. BUT WE ABSOLUTELY, IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, HAVE THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE HE WILL ACTUALLY MAKE IT INTO OFFICE. You think the average American has had enough of Bush's lies? Well, you're lying to yourself.

Just like Gore and Kerry before him, Obama is having to battle the deception and manipulation that the Republican party exerts over the American people. Moreover, obstacles like voter caging http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caging_list, voting location inaccessibility, and voter count manipulations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_election_recount will make it even more difficult for Obama to get elected.

Like the 2000 and 2004 elections preceding it, this presidency will be decided by a narrow margin. In order to make sure Obama not only gets the votes he needs to legally win, but gets enough votes to beat the "Republican spread," we HAVE to get involved. There is no exception. If we don't, we WILL NOT win.

Xmas Letter to Obama: How You Could Have Won

I'm sending this early, Senator, because of my confidence that you won't open it until Christmas and my concern that when you do you'll say I should have spoken up sooner.

The four main things you did wrong are related to vote counting, media, policy, and your job in the U.S. Senate. If you had done them right you could have worn a flag pin, not worn a flag pin, pierced the thing through your nose, or told Wolf Blitzer to stick it up his ass. Regardless, you would have won.

Vote Counting: In the New Hampshire primary, every precinct that counted by hand you won, every precinct that counted with optical scan machines you lost. Maybe that's just the way it went. Maybe not. But you could have had a full recount for a couple of grand and you declined. Yes, I'm aware that you won the primaries, but you ought to have done the recount as a matter of principle. You ought to have demanded recounts in other states, including states you won, as a matter of principle.

The people who vote for you want their votes credibly and verifiably counted. It's about them, Senator. It's not about you. We don't care if some corporate shill calls you names. We care whether you'll stand up for our right to vote. You did nothing to encourage early and absentee and paper-ballot voting, nothing to encourage independent observation, videography, exit polling, or oversight of any sort, nothing to prepare for law suits and recounts, nothing to alert anyone to the danger or to assist in decreasing it.

You did not put your focus sufficiently on registering new voters, mobilizing turnout, and giving cynical people reason to turnout (see policy below). You should have encouraged early and absentee voting, and paper ballot voting in states that allowed voters to request paper ballots. You should have raised the issue in the media and made it part of your campaign in a few ways.

First, you should have encouraged election day volunteers, observers, videographers, and exit-pollsters, organized efforts directly or assisted organizations not affiliated with your campaign, and you should have encouraged the media to produce and release unadjusted exit poll results. You should have spent election day setting an example as an observer.

Second, you should have made the issue of honest and verifiable elections part of your platform for policy changes. Ideally, you should have supported working toward changes in regulations, laws, and the Constitution to establish an individual Constitutional right to vote and to have all votes publicly and locally counted in a manner that can be repeated and verified if questioned, and a ban on private companies overseeing any vote counting.

Third, you should long since have supported ongoing efforts to investigate past questionable elections all over the country. You should NOT have conceded. You should have immediately requested audits and recounts. You should have announced ahead of time that you were going to do so as a matter of principle.

And then you should have gone beyond that and encouraged labor unions to call a general strike and non-unionized workers to join in. Had you gotten the next three strategies right, it wouldn't have come to this. Media: In terms of media policy, you should have supported free air time and equal substantive coverage on noncommercial public television for all qualified candidates.

In terms of action, you should have refused to give a dime of our money to advertisements purchasing back little snippets of our airwaves from, and funding massively, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, or CBS. Instead, you ought to have taken all that money and joined forces with other concerned citizens and groups to launch a new, independent, commercial-free, non-profit television / radio / online network that would break the mold by honestly reporting the news 24/7/365, including the news about your campaign.

If you had done that, you would have won your election, won future elections for the better candidates for decades to come, and inspired members of the public to support viewer-funded, commercial-free media worthy of a democratic nation.

Not a dime of all the money we gave you went to fund serious investigative reporting. Every dime of it should have.

Policy: You listened to your advisers who listened to your donors and the corporate media. You did not base your policy positions on the preferences of the majority of Americans, much less the majority of Democrats and Independents.

Yes! magazine recently published at http://yesmagazine.org/purpleagenda a collection of progressive policies favored by a majority of Americans in polls according to which: 64 percent believe the government should provide national health insurance coverage for all, even if it would raise taxes (taking this position would have won you a huge number of voters);

80 percent support increasing the federal minimum wage (so did you but without naming an amount or talking about it except when asked); 58 percent believe a court warrant should be required to listen to telephone calls (you voted to give immunity to corporations that assisted the president in violating that requirement, and to make matters worse you had promised to vote No and filibuster);

68 percent believe a president should not act alone to fight terrorism without checks and balances of courts and Congress (you said you'd support attacking Pakistan without cover of Congress or the law, thus denying yourself the right to comment when Bush did just that);

79 percent favor mandatory controls on greenhouse gas emissions; 90 percent favor higher auto fuel efficiency standards; 75 percent favor clean electricity, even with higher rates; 72 percent support more funding for mass transit (why was your party's platform so weak on this?); 67 percent favor public works projects to create jobs (your party's platform in Denver put barely more into this than it put into giving weapons to Israel); 73 percent favor abolishing nuclear weapons, with verification; 80 percent favor banning weapons in space; 81 percent oppose torture and support following the Geneva conventions; 85 percent say the United States should not initiate military action without support from allies;

63 percent want U.S. forces home from Iraq within a year; 07 percent (yes, 7 percent!) favor military action against Iran; and 69 percent favor using diplomatic and economic means to fight terrorism, not the military (so why did you propose putting our grandchildren further into debt to enlarge the world's biggest military and refuse to end the occupations of Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other countries, or to take an attack on Iran "off the table"?); 86 percent say big companies have too much power; and 74 percent favor voluntary public financing of campaigns (so why did the Democratic National Convention disagree?).

Senate: Your vote for telecom immunity was your worst vote because of the clarity with which you had campaigned against it. If I'd know you planned such a betrayal, I would have voted for Clinton in the primary. You lost a lot of supporters and a lot of volunteer hours by that reversal. Your flip on oil drilling didn't help. Had you consistently voted in line with your rhetoric, your worst votes would have been those you took in support of funding the ongoing occupation of Iraq.

You threw away your ability to use the single biggest issue, a hugely unpopular war, against an opponent who couldn't stop bragging about it through the election and even on his death bed.

Now President-to-be Palin has picked up the same crusade. And you threw away a likely landslide victory by refusing to support the impeachment of Bush or Cheney.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers repeatedly defended his failure to impeach on the grounds that he didn't want to hurt your election chances. But this made no sense, and a word from you would have reversed Conyers' and Pelosi's decision.

When the Democrats had gone after Nixon they'd picked up 49 seats. When they'd let Reagan go they'd lost. When the Republicans had gone after Truman they'd won. When they'd gone after Clinton against the overwhelming opinion of the public, they'd lost a mere five seats and held both houses of Congress and taken the White House. Those five seats led you and your colleagues to rip the power of impeachment out of the Constitution.

Yet, the Republicans lost 30 seats in the House in 2006 by backing an illegal and costly war, and you blissfully dumped hundreds of billions into continuing and escalating it. Imagine what the impeachment trial would have looked like.

Even if unsuccessful, it would have guaranteed your electoral victory. You would have defended the Constitution and the rule of law, while Senator McCain explained how he had been against torture before he was for it, and how he would not spy or lie or detain or abuse, but how he approved of Bush and Cheney having done so.

After the Whigs attempted to impeach Tyler, they picked up seven seats, and Tyler left politics. Weeks after he lobbied for Johnson's impeachment, Grant was nominated for president. Lincoln had pushed toward the impeachment of Polk without introducing actual articles. He, too, was elected president.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, promised to cease committing various crimes of Bush and Cheney, while simultaneously claiming that you couldn't back impeachment or future prosecution because you were unaware of any crimes having been committed.

Short of impeachment you ought to have pushed for the use of inherent contempt, the power through which the House, Senate, or a committee thereof locks up a witness on Capitol Hill to compel their testimony.

And you ought to have made it a top priority to assure safety and well-being to potential whistle blowers in the executive branch. By not taking a stance in support of oversight and accountability, you placed a single election ahead of the fate of our republic. By doing that, you lost yourself the election and helped lose us a lot more.

Joe Biden speaks to New Hampshire at a Town Hall in Nashua

Senator Joe Biden was in Nashua, New Hampshire today and motivated the crowd at the Nashua Community College.

The crowd of over 500 felt the urgency as the days tick away toward November 4th. This election is different. We can no longer sit back and wait for others to make it better. This election is about us; each one of us; you, me, and our neighbors coming out and talking to each other about how we can change the world ourselves. This is new.

Senator Biden knows the change we need. You know the change we need. It's clear and it includes addressing the healthcare crisis, the energy crisis, the housing crisis, the education crisis... how many crises can we take all at once? We need solutions that make sense for all hard working Americans, like those below, who came to hear about this change.

US Senator Charles Schumer's Letter: Obama and Details on the 2008 Races in Battleground States, from Democrat Perspective

Here is something I am absolutely certain of: The only reason we're poised to achieve once-in-a-lifetime change in the Senate is because our grassroots - people just like you - have done everything we've asked to give the DSCC all the campaign resources we need to execute our proven campaign plan.

For that, you have my deep, sincere thanks. And if we elect that filibuster-proof majority in November, you'll have the gratitude of an entire nation.

Let me tell you where we stand.

There are 11 battleground states. [OREGON, ALASKA, COLORADO, NEW MEXICO, MINNESOTA, KENTUCKY, NORTH CAROLINA, VIRIGNIA, MISSISSIPPI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND MAINE]

And that doesn't even count the five other states just on the horizon that we'll all be talking about on Election Day. Here are just a few examples of the success we're seeing this cycle.

Democrat Tom Udall holds a commanding lead in New Mexico. In fact, just a few days ago we learned that the NRSC canceled its entire $2.3 million television buy here, essentially conceding the race.

The nation's most vulnerable Republican incumbent, John Sununu, trails Democratic ex-Governor Jeanne Shaheen by 11 points.

Even in a Republican stronghold like North Carolina, two recent polls show Democratic State Senator Kay Hagan pulling even with incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole.

I know that we can make the most of our opportunity this year because we're using the same proven strategy that took back the Senate in 2006. You're helping us frame the terms of each race, respond to every attack, and directly connect with millions of voters to drive them to the polls.

Thanks to your overwhelming support, the DSCC was able to launch TV ads in North Carolina that exposed Dole as the 93rd most effective senator, undercutting her hollow message of experience and results.

In Colorado, Democrat Mark Udall was under siege by $6 million worth of attack ads paid for by shadowy third-party Republican groups. The DSCC rushed to his defense with ads of our own and now Mark has an impressive lead.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, your contributions support a bigger and better version of the sophisticated voter contact strategy that took back the Senate two years ago. Already this year, we've made more 2.5 million phone calls and knocked on 650,000 doors in our battleground states nationwide.

2008 Senate Battlegrounds

Alaska
Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) vs. Sen. Ted Stevens (R)

The corruption scandal sweeping through the Alaska Republican Party has put Ted Stevens - a 7-term incumbent - on the brink of losing his seat in November.

Democrat Mark Begich has opened up a lead in the latest polling, but nobody is under any illusion that this race is over. Alaska has always been a Republican stronghold, and with Governor Sarah Palin on the presidential ticket, the party is sure to be energized to turn out in November.

Begich is doing everything necessary to hold on to his lead. He's raising money and reaching out to voters. Just this week he launched a new ad to drive home his commitment to repeal the disastrous No Child Left Behind law.

Stevens won't let a 40-year career end without a fight, so we won't let up for a second before Election Day. With your help, the DSCC will do everything possible to ensure that Mark Begich wins in November.

Colorado
Rep. Mark Udall (D) vs. Rep. Bob Schaffer (R)

Six months ago, this race was neck and neck. Now, Mark Udall leads by 10 points in the latest Denver Post poll.

What happened? First, Bob Schaffer was discovered to have been the recipient of an all-expense paid tropical vacation from a front group for convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Then, it was revealed that when he was vice-president of Aspect Energy, he negotiated an oil deal in Iraq that the State Department officials specifically identified as detrimental to stability in Iraq.

Then there were two different DSCC TV ads paid for by grassroots supporters like you. Our investment here is another key reason Udall enjoys a strong position heading into the stretch run.

Colorado will be a battleground state in November, so we're not taking anything for granted in this race. In fact, Udall has already seen more third-party attack ads than any other Democratic candidate this cycle. It's our job to help him fight back.

Kentucky
Bruce Lunsford (D) vs. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R)

No matter how much money Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spends, he can't shake the tough challenge posed by Democratic business leader Bruce Lunsford. McConnell is even getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in help from corporate Republican third-party organizations.

None of it is slowing Lunsford, who is on the air with a devastating straight-to-camera indictment of Republican failures in Washington.

Let's be blunt. It's always tough to beat an entrenched incumbent, but Mitch McConnell has been the man responsible for all of those Republican filibusters blocking progress on health care, energy costs, and the housing crisis. It's critical that he is held accountable in November.

Maine
Rep. Tom Allen (D) vs. Sen. Susan Collins (R)

Republican incumbent Susan Collins likes to portray herself as a voice of Republican moderation, but the truth is that she's been a reliable cheerleader for even the worst of George Bush's policies.

Democrat Tom Allen is ready to hold Collins accountable for her record. He has built a formidable campaign organization and has more than $3 million in the bank for the stretch run. He will have the resources to bring his message of change to Mainers.

Allen and the DSCC have both taken to the airwaves to push Allen's proven record of results. This race is poised for a strong finish.

Minnesota
Al Franken (D) vs. Sen. Norm Coleman (R)

The race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman is a dead heat, and the massive TV blitz has begun. Coleman has launched attack ads against Franken, and corporate special interests are blanketing the state against Franken.

That's why the DSCC has unleashed a striking new ad this week that apes a blockbuster movie trailer to make sure that every Minnesota voter knows Norm Coleman is a classic Bush Republican. We think it's pretty terrific and will break through the noise in this race to get a lot of attention from voters. Take a look and see for yourself.

Mississippi
Gov. Ronnie Musgrove (D) vs. Sen. Roger Wicker (R)

The polls in the race for Trent Lott's old seat are just about as close as they can get. Democrat Ronnie Musgrove and interim Senator Roger Wicker have been trading the lead for months.

Make no mistake. Mississippi is top territory for Democrats. But Republicans always do well in the Deep South, so Musgrove is working hard to persuade independent and even Republican voters. Both sides are blitzing the state with TV ads.

What's going to make the difference in this race? You are. Thanks to your support, the DSCC is already running ads in Mississippi to expose Wicker's sordid record. As long as we can count on you along the way, the DSCC will be able to make the investments necessary to win on Election Day.

This is going to be one of those races - like Montana and Virginia in 2006 - where we win by just a few thousand votes. You helped the DSCC make all the difference before and I know we will do it again.

New Hampshire
Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D) vs. Sen. John Sununu (R)

Jeanne Shaheen is another big target for third-party attacks ads. By our count, seven different groups have spent more than $2.5 million trying to drag Shaheen through the mud.

These groups don't have to disclose their donors, so they can't be held accountable. Instead, the DSCC just has to fight back. With our new ad this week targeting John Sununu's dismal record on supporting funding for Medicare, that's exactly what we're doing.

The DSCC's job is to level the playing field when our candidates are under attack, and it's working in New Hampshire. Shaheen has sustained a strong lead in this race, and John Sununu remains the most vulnerable Republican incumbent in the country.

Still, New Hampshire is another presidential battleground state, and John Sununu has a history of taking advantage of dirty political tricks to win. We can't take a moment off if we're going to elect Jeanne Shaheen.

New Mexico
Rep. Tom Udall vs. Rep. Steve Pearce (R)

Democrat Tom Udall holds a solid lead in the latest polling and has more than five times as much campaign cash on-hand as Steve Pearce.

While Udall continues to connect with voters and run TV ads focused on the middle class squeeze, the NRSC has all but given up in this state. They cancelled a $2.3 million planned ad buy and have essentially told Pearce that he's on his own now.

The Washington Post has called a Udall victory a "done deal" and the venerable political handicapper Charlie Cook has declared that Pearce doesn't have a "fighting chance" in November. Very good news for Democrats.

However, the United States Chamber of Commerce - one of the most reliable Republican attack organizations - didn't get the memo and is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads against Udall. We haven't seen much movement in the polls as a result, but the DSCC watches this race every day. You know we'll be ready to support Udall whenever he needs it.

North Carolina
State Sen. Kay Hagan (D) vs. Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R)

Senator Dole is scared. We used to call this the sleeper race of the cycle. Now, it's just another terrific opportunity to pick-up a Republican held seat in one of the most closely-watched races in the country.

After trailing by as many as 12 points in recent months, two new polls give Democrat Kay Hagan a slim lead in this race.

The Republicans are launching a major counter-offensive. Dole fired back with her first negative attack against Hagan this cycle. Even the NRSC is spending some of their meager budget attacking our candidate. They will not go down without a fight.

At the DSCC, we always say we can level the playing field for our challengers facing well-financed incumbents. The race in North Carolina is a perfect example. We'll need your help along the way, but you better believe that we'll do everything in our power to defeat Elizabeth Dole in November.

Oregon
Speaker of the State House Jeff Merkley (D) vs. Sen. Gordon Smith (R)

Oregon remains one of the hottest Senate races in the country. Republican incumbent Gordon Smith is clinging to a single-digit lead despite outspending Democrat Jeff Merkley by a wide margin. In fact, in numbers released Wednesday, Smith scored the highest disapproval rating of his career in the Senate.

It really makes for a strong pick-up opportunity, which is why we've already seen the Republicans' third-party friends taking aim at Merkley. Remember, these organizations don't have to disclose their donors and therefore can't be held accountable for the mud they sling.

Again, one of the keys to Democratic victory in this state will be a strong and vibrant investment by the DSCC. We've known Oregon would be a strong pick-up opportunity months ago and we have been airing TV ads statewide week after week since May.

In our latest spot, we are directly responding to Smith's claims last week that he's a strong opponent of the war in Iraq. The DSCC immediately launched a new ad reminding Oregonians that no matter what he says now, Smith supported George Bush's failed Iraq policy for 1,518 days.

In 58 days, we can show Gordon Smith just what we think about that and send him packing. When you make a contribution, winning states like Oregon is exactly where your money goes.

Virginia
Gov. Mark Warner (D) vs. Gov. Jim Gilmore (R)

Mark Warner has maintained a strong, double-digit lead in the polling in this race, and it's easy to see why.

Warner has more than $5 million in campaign cash on hand. Gilmore is nearly broke. Warner has been running TV ads emphasizing his bipartisan record of accomplishment. Gilmore has been reduced to sleazy personal attacks.

2008 Milford Labor Day Parade

Everyone came out this year and all had a blast. Beautiful day, lots of people, it was a site to see. The Shaheen, Lynch, Hodes and Obama campaigns were in force with hundreds of volunteers. Lynch led with a load of barrels on a flatbed. Shaheen had a huge semi-truck with barn signs all around and it was blasting some serious parade music. Hodes was cruising along in a old antique automobile. The New Hampshire Campaign for Change even had a float with Obama on it!

As you'll see in the mass of pictures taken, the float consisted of a voting booth, a couple stand-ins, and some pretty impressive decor on the truck, including a great quote by FDR. The Obama contingent led chant after chant, inspiring those along the parade route to sign along. A favorite included "Barack and Joe - Ready to Go!"

We did it!

Thursday we left Akron and drove to NYC. We had an interview in Lewisburg, PA. After the interview we stoped by the Obama office and ran into Chris who worked in Butte during the pirmary.

Thursday evening we watched the speech from an apartment in Manhattan. Dixie made the NY Post the following morning as the watch party was covered by some media.

One of the greatest political speeches of American history, but I may be biased.

Friday morning we left NYC early and met Heidi for lunch and a picnic in New Haven, Conn. Heidi and her beautiful daugher provided a wonderful break in our schedule. Just taking the time to relax was great.

Then we crossed Conn, Mass and Vermont into New Hampshire. Unity is not easy to find. It really doesn't exist as a town. Will's Convience Store is about it. We met with the press there and headed off for Boston.

Cheryl made us a wonderful lobster dinner.

Today we took the ObamaCart down to Castle Island and rolled it around. It is always fun to watch people when they first see it.

In NYC as we rolled it down the street people were leaning out of their apartment windows cheering us. We needed a bit of ticker tape to complete it, but it sure was fun.

Total milage I believe is around 2730, but I have the exact numbers in our car. 15 states so far.

This afternoon we will head south, tomorrow Washing DC and then I head home.

My First Time

This is my first time getting involved with a presidential election. I've never been inspired enough by any presidential nominee to give my time and energy. I voted for Barack in the New Hampshire primary, but I'm usually pretty private about my political views, so I wasn't ready to get involved then. But after our "first in the nation" primary, and watching the results from all the subsequent primaries, I realized that sometimes you have to take a stand and shout from the treetops what it is that you believe, and what you value enough to be inspired to be involved. So when the organizing of community teams started up again in May, I joined up.

There's been more firsts since that time. My first door-to-door canvass, my first phone calls, my first speaking from my heart in public to try to influence and inspire other voters to stand up and be counted. And last night was my first house party. What a blast! Gathering a group of people, most of whom I'd never met, to share our belief that this man, Barack Obama, is the man to lead a fundamental change process in our nation's capital.

This is the fourth in our series profiling women in key positions with the Obama campaign. Suzanne Charlé , a supporter in New York City - an independent writer and editor - has volunteered her time and talent to conduct the interviews.

At 32, Mindy Myers, New Hampshire state director for the Obama campaign, is a veteran of tough, tight campaigns. Myers, who took a leave of absence from her job as chief of staff to Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, is credited with helping Whitehouse edge out the liberal (and locally popular) Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee in 2006.

As PAC political director for Senate Leader Tom Daschle, Myers became a well-known figure on the Hill. However, she hopes not to repeat some of her campaign experiences: After a stint in the Clinton White House, Myers joined Al Gore’s Presidential campaign as deputy director of constituency outreach. Election eve 2000 found her in Tallahassee, Florida, where she spent 36 days on the recount, before the Supreme Court declared Bush President. “Which is why New Hampshire is so important,” Myers notes. “Gore lost in New Hampshire by just over 7,000 votes. If he had won, there would have been no need for a recount!”

New Hampshire Veterans for Obama Steering Committee Roundtable in Manchester, NH

Thursday night, at the American Legion Sweeney Post in Manchester, New Hampshire a group of Veterans met at a roundtable to discuss Senator Barack Obama's stance on Veteran affairs and benefits. Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam veteran, Captain Paul "Bud" Bucha, joined them to kickoff the New Hampshire Veterans for Obama Steering Committee.

Bill from the Manchester Sweeney Post started off:

We need a change in this country. We need a change now. We need to bring somebody into the White House who will speak for us veterans, who will get us a VA facility like we need here in Manchester; the only state in the United States that doesn't have a full service VA hospital. We need people here to help us. We need Obama in office. We need Carol Shea-Porter in office. We need Governor Shaheen in office. We need everyone to help us veterans. A lot of guys who have got a lot of issues, they can't get them taken care of here. They have to travel to Massachusetts. They have to travel to Vermont, whether it's for cancer treatment or mental health facilities.

Jim Smith, retired Air Force General, served 28 years mainly as a fighter pilot, introduced Captain Bucha:

I supported Senator Obama early because I saw in him someone who understood that the last seven years of this nation's experience did not match what our nation stood for. And I think in Senator Obama we've got a candidate, that not only is right for this time, he probably represents the best candidate for change we've seen in several generations.

BILL, CAPTAIN "BUD" BUCHA (standing) AND GENERAL SMITH

Captain Bucha shared many great stories with this group of veterans, but when he spoke about leadership he listed his five elements of leadership: integrity, confidence, competence, compassion, and humility. In twenty years he hasn't found more than those five, but he found all five in Senator Obama:

I looked at those five things and I said, that's Barack! He didn't wait like they said... He told us the truth of who he was and everything about him. He didn't hide it... He wrote it in a book and it's there. So he's been honest and he's been compassionate... But no where in those five things is timing great. No where does it say, 'oh in 20 years experience'... If there were, David wouldn't have thrown that rock at Goliath. It would have been an old guy. Alexander would never have conquered Persia. It would have been an old guy. Abraham Lincoln would have never been allowed to be President. It would have been an old guy. Ulysses S. Grant wouldn't have accepted the surrender. It would have been an old guy. Martin Luther wouldn't have walked up those steps. It would have been an old minister. Dave Patreaus would not be leading in Iraq and I would have never been given command of my company. I didn't have five minutes of experience before I became a company commander. I'd been at the business school in Stanford. And as a result, time and grade wasn't important. History is repleat with people who are young, who rise to the occation, who have these other elements of leadership. And that's what I saw in Barack.

Captain Bucha continued, making it known and clear that Senator Obama's voting record has been and will remain strong for veterans. He believes in what Senator Obama told him, "I believe it starts with the oath and ends with the cemetery." Captain Bucha followed with verility:

You take your oath. You die. That's the obligation of the country to the veteran. And the only difference is some point along the way you take your uniform off, whether it's 30 years or whether it's two years. But the obligation remains. And I thought, that was a unique concept to finally have someone have the guts to say.

Volunteer Profile: Roger from Hooksett

Meet Roger. He's a High School teacher from Hooksett, and he'll be volunteering for Barack Obama's Campaign for Change this fall, doing most of his work out of the Concord office.

Roger supported Bill Richardson in the Democratic Primary -- he's looking forward to hearing Governor Richardson speak Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. But he's also looking forward to seeing Barack accept the Democratic nomination on Thursday. "It's an exciting time for a lot of reasons," he says.

I've supported candidates before, but this is the first time I've done more than put a yard sign up for one. I like the plans Barack has for his presidency. I like his presence. And I'm also scared to death of John McCain. He's an honorable man -- I just don't like what he stands for, and the campaign he's running. He promised a respectful campaign, but he's not giving us that thus far.

New Hampshire Organizational Meeting: Concord

Just days before the start of the Democratic Convention in Denver, hundreds of supporters across New Hampshire gathered at organizational meetings Wednesday night. The meetings were an opportunity for volunteers to learn how to get involved in Barack's Campaign for Change.

Concord's meeting brought together folks who had supported several different candidates in the Democratic Primary. Stu is a self-described environmental voter who worked on Edwards campaign during the primary. He spoke of his initial decision to back John Edwards:

[It was] a difficult choice, considering all of the excellent candidates -- but it was an easy choice to come over to Barack's team after the primary was over. It's very important that we win this fall and take back the White House.

Erika, who lives in Penacook, supported Hillary Clinton in her historic run for the presidency. She too is on board with helping Barack win in November:

I know this was hard for a lot of Clinton supporters, but I wasn't heartbroken when the primary campaign ended. As a Democrat, I'll always work hard for the candidate I support in the primary, but once a decision's been made, I'm on board. If you care about environmental issues, fair economic policy, and protecting a woman's right to choose, then Obama stands very close to Senator Clinton on those issues.

Laurie from Concord has been a supporter of Senator Obama for more than a year, and she was excited by the prospect of bringing her kids along with her next time she came in to volunteer. This is the most excited I've ever been about a candidate, and I want to do what I can to get [Barack] into office.

The meeting itself was all business. Campaign staff briefed attendees on the importance of voter contact in the weeks to come. Said Turner, a Field Organizer from Concord:

On the phones and door to door are the two best ways to get to talk to voters. Our goal is to talk to every voter in New Hampshire by Election Day. We (staff) could spend every hour on the phone between now and Election Day and it wouldn't get done -- so we need your help.

Several attendees stuck around after the meeting to make phone calls to voters. With only 75 days left until Election Day, every day is a chance to get Barack Obama closer to becoming our next President.

Adolfo Carrion talks Obama at the Latino Festival in Manchester

This last Saturday, Adolfo Carrion Jr., president of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, traveled to the Granite State to talk to voters at the Latino Festival in downtown Manchester about Senator Obama's plan to help working New Hampshire families.

Mr. Carrion spoke to people in the community about healthcare, the economy, party unity, and the importance of registering new voters. The current number of unregistered Latinos in New Hampshire is likely to be more than what made the difference in the presidental elections here in New Hampshire in both 2000 and 2004. New Hampshire Latinos can make the difference in this election. Visit the New Hampshire Election Headquarters.

Mr. Carrion had an opportunity to talk about the issues important to New Hampshire with U.S. Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (above). Throughout the day, Mr Carrion was joined by State Senator Lou D'Allessandro (below) and local community leader, Lillye from Manchester.

The highlight of the day was the warm welcome Mr. Carrion and Lillye (below) received walking up and down Union Street. The owners of almost every shop were eager to talk about this critically important election and put signs in their windows showing support for Senator Obama. As Mr. Carrion recounted later at the New Hampshire Campaign for Change Headquarters, he was amazed at what the folks had to say... they were just waiting for someone to stop by and ask for their support.

Supporters Tout Obama Energy Plan in Manchester and Portsmouth, New Hampshire at the Pumps

Supporters of Barack Obama's Campaign for Change in New Hampshire gathered outside a gas station in Manchester and another in Portsmouth today to talk with motorists and tell them about Senator Obama's New Energy for America initiative.

While supporters passed out Senator Obama's New Energy for America Blueprint leaflet to customers and passers-by, several speakers spoke about why Senator Obama would be the best choice as President for the Granite State because of his Energy policy.

Jack, the first speaker, knows Barack Obama well:

I'm from Senator Obama's home state of Illinois, where I work as an environmental advocate working to bring clean energy and price relief on energy issues for Illinois consumers. I've worked closely with Senator Obama over the last twelve years to try to bring rate relief, electric and gas price relief to Illinois consumers. I will tell you, in 2000, I was kind of hoping that John McCain was going to be the Republican candidate for President. I thought he was saying the right things and making the right choices for us. He didn't win, and we've had eight years of an administration that I really have come to believe has taken a lot away from us.
I'm wondering where I'm going to get my money to pay for my heat this winter. I know my gas prices are going up. I know my electric prices are going up. I've got friends and family who are real concerned right now how they're going to get through a New England winter.
This is a major impasse and we need somebody here to step up. We need to take ownership as voters in this country and do something for ourselves, and not rely on everyone else to do it for us. And I think that Obama has gotten that message through.

This is a grassroots effort -- as much as we have to vote to elect a new President, that not alone is going to change anything if we don't get a leader. Manchester Office Opening last night!

Wow what a crowd! Over 150 supporters came to celebrate Senator Obama's 47th birthday and the official opening of the Manchester, New Hampshire Campaign for Change office. There were many special guest speakers including Democratic Chairman Raymond Buckley, Rep. Mike Brunelle, Jim Demers, Senate President Sylvia Larsen, Sen. Lou D'Allesandro, and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter.

The walls were covered with signs from all the Democratic candidates: Obama, Jeanne Shaheen, and Carol Shea-Porter. Sign-up sheets on the back wall were filled with people signing up to volunteer, write letters to the editor, and house out-of-state volunteers.

The theme of the night was the urgency of everyone to get involved to support the coordinated effort to turn New Hampshire blue and elect all the Democrats down the ballot. Mr. Buckley noted the power of this campaign and the excitement of everyone who was involved during the primaries and the importance of the great state of New Hampshire in deciding the outcome of the 2008 Presidential election. The time is now! Get involved.

A Good Governance Platform: Listening to America in Littleton, NH

A RETURN TO GOOD GOVERNANCE is the title we chose for the Planks submitted for the National Democratic Party Platform as developed and agreed to on July 20, 2008 in Littleton, NH. Turnout was excellent (especially for a hot, rainy, “school night”) and energy was high. 38 people ranging in age from 18 to 88 came from area mill towns and villages to discuss ideas that are important to is. There was a good sampling of North Country residents including locals and “flatlanders”, many of whom had supported other candidates in the primaries, but are all strongly behind Barack Obama now and moving forward. The planks appear below, followed by a description of how this energy- and idea-filled evening transpired.

Tornados in New Hampshire?

Yesterday, New Hampshire earned the dubious distinction of having the first-ever death caused by a tornado, as a woman died in Deerfield when a tornado hit her home. This is very sad, and I've been wondering all day if perhaps this tornado has something to do with global climate change.

I'm from Kentucky, where summer thunderstorms chase days of sweattin' humidity. Folks there are well-trained to spot certain cloud formations, turning on TVs and Radios for the storm team forcasts and that ever-important tornado warning alert. After some devistating tornadoes pummled Louisville in the 70's, the town became well-equiped with a community-based siren system that sounds off when those really bad clouds even hint at a potential tornado. No question these advances have saved lives, but places like New Hampshire aren't ready for that, as such weather doesn't loom above... until now.

It's a scary feeling, knowing that a looming dark cloud might be bringing some pretty rough weather our way. As areas further north sustain hotter and hotter weather, more should know about the best place to go in their homes to survive.

As a German-American, long-time Obama supporter, and advocate of the notion that "we are all Husseins," I can't help but feel an extra measure of beaming support of Barack Obama today as he speaks in Berlin, Germany. How historic it is.

I've believed all along that Barack Obama would be the best choice for President, mainly because we needed a leader who can help us restore the American Dream. Now he can help restore our reputation abroad, too, before he's even elected to the Presidency.

It's exciting to see that positive sentiment about Barack Obama is as it is in Europe. I'm thrilled to see it unfolding as it is.

The Western Mass for Obama Organization is moving forward following two very well attended organizational meetings in Springfield on June 30th, (200 people) and in Florence on July 1st (135 people). Next is the time for action - Saturday Canvasses in Keene, NH!
New Hampshire is a battleground state that will be a real tough fight since 40 percent of the voters are independents and McCain is popular there. In 2004, John Kerry won NH by a small margin and only because Keene and the western side of the state provided a margin large enough to overcome the results in the other parts of the state. Although it may seem a long way to election day, canvassing is very important to find out where the voters stand, to find new volunteers for Obama,to persuade the undecided and to let the folks know there is a lot of support for Obama. The work done now will be reflected in more refined efforts as we move into September and October.

We had a great time! It was hot, and everyone was excited to meet Sen. Obama & Sen. Clinton. They looked like a team. Everyone was working really hard to get people situated. Former Governor Jean Shaheen, who is running for congress, had some wonderful things to say about Michelle and said she enjoyed the time spent with her last week.

Rep. Paul Hodes & Gov. John Lynch were in Unity also. Gov. Lynch asked a question but before he was able to finish the question he said "does anyone want a president" and someone said "yes". The honorary mayor of Unity said he bought some new "sneaks" for the day.Sen. Obama thanked him for the cutting boards he gave to him and Sen. Clinton. He said he was a lifelong republican but was considering voting for Sen. Obama.

Sen. Clinton had a lot of supporters there and everyone cheered her on. Someone yelled "Hillary rocks!", & Sen. Obama got a kick out of that. There were twice as many people that came to the event than the population of the town. All in all, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it was great to see how happy they both were at the turnout.

I met so many nice people from around the state and everyone was enthusiastic about being part of the process.

Nader obviously had no chance of winning the presidential elections of 2000 or 2004, but he ran anyway. Nader has no chance of winning the presidential election in 2008, but he is running anyway. Why is he tarnishing his reputation?

Who is funding Nader's campaign?

Nader is the Republican Party's best weapon. Virtually all of the voters who vote for Nader would otherwise have either voted for the Democratic candidate, or not voted for any candidate.

So I see the MSM hasn't let up on Obama from last night's debacle and the Clinton camp is salivating at the mere mention of the words "vetting."

I keep telling myself it will be over soon but in all honesty it feels as if it's an eternity. Thank goodness the Presidential election only comes around every 4 years. My hope is that the new administration will completely overhaul the election process and cut down the length of campaigning. This is getting to a point where tempers flare, not only with the candidates but with the general public.

The notion that there is guilt by association is ludicrous. If the Clinton campaign and their cronies (FIX NEWS, ABC...ETC) seriously think this is a valid point, then let's talk about the "guilt."

In 2006 on Meet the Press, Hillary Clinton proclaimed that new vetting procedures had been been put in place to prevent her from taking money from sleaze merchants like Norman Hsu.

If you think you’ve heard that line before, you are right.

"The spokeswoman for Mrs. Clinton, Ann Lewis, said Mrs. Clinton was not aware of Mr. Burgess’s background when he held fund-raising affairs for her in 2000 and 2003, nor did she know whether other prominent Democrats had rejected contributions. She said that Mrs. Clinton’s vetting procedures have been strengthened since the senator’s appearance at I.P.A."

Small business owners across the country, were frustrated by Hillary’s continued refusal to turn away IPA funds, have written her this letter. The small business owners were victimized by IPA’s fraud and sued the IPA in a federal racketeering lawsuit pending in Chicago.

We are trying to fight back against this company and you, Senator Clinton, are enabling it. Surely, now, in the wake of the Norman Hsu scandal, your political staff will turn up the background we’ve known about for some time, including:
 IPA is being sued by the federal government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for widespread sexual harassment. In a New York Times article May 7, 2006 titled, “Rubbing Shoulders with Trouble, and Presidents,” EEOC lawyer Diane Smason called the allegations “probably the most egregious” ever filed by the agency’s Chicago office. She said the investigation found that “sex harassment is the standard operating procedure for this company.” That case is pending in U.S. District Court.
 The Illinois Attorney General’s office has acknowledged publicly that it is investigating IPA for alleged fraud.
 The Better Business Bureau says IPA has an “unsatisfactory record” based on reoccurring complaints that total 427 in the last three years. The BBB has issued “alerts” in various states to warn businesses that IPA was soliciting work there.
 The company founder, John Burgess, is a convicted criminal, according to numerous published reports. He was convicted of attempted grand larceny and of soliciting a 16-year-old prostitute, those reports state. He was disbarred as a lawyer in New York state in July 1987 for “failing to answer charges which involved perjury, larceny, a conviction for patronizing a 16-year-old prostitute, possession of drugs and engaging in a pattern over a six-year period of lies and deceit,” according to The Lawyers Fund for Client Protection of New York state. Burgess also is named as a key defendant in the sexual harassment lawsuit.
 The company’s attorney, Myron “Mike” Cherry, also a contributor of yours, has been identified in published reports as “Individual H” in the Illinois criminal indictment of businessman Antoin “Tony” Rezko. Cherry has acknowledged in published reports that he was the conduit for some of the IPA campaign contributions.
 Already, politicians across the country have returned donations from IPA because of the company’s checkered past. Illinois Senator Barack Obama, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and former Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager are among those who have returned contributions from IPA.
We have made our fraud allegations in a federal racketeering lawsuit pending in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
Mrs. Clinton, we see from published reports that you have identified yourself as a champion for women’s rights and an advocate for small business owners. We cannot fathom, in light of those self-labels, how you could possibly accept campaign contributions from a company accused by the federal government of sexually harassing scores of women and one that has left behind a long trail of fraud complaints from small business owners. Do you believe the 114 women who were allegedly sexually harassed at IPA are not telling the truth about that harassment? Do you believe the Better Business Bureau is wrong? Do you think the state Attorney General is unjustified in her investigation of IPA?
We believe this is our concern because the campaign contributions you continue to accept came from the money that we believe was taken from us illegally. We do not believe you should continue to further your political career with such tainted cash.
We are not singling you out in this request. We plan to make the same request to other public officials who continue to accept and hold IPA-related campaign contributions. We wrote you first because you are running for President and certainly should be setting an example for other politicians.

Dirty Tricks

We all have to admit that 'dirty tricks' are not the exclusive purview of Republicans.

Thinking back over this extraordinary campaign, one thing seems anomalous. Paranoid? You tell me. Of all the caucuses and primaries to date, including the ten-pointer tonight, the ONLY example of a radical disparity between polls and results was New Hampshire. Are New Hampshirers such incredible liars? Quite the opposite, I believe. I trust the exit polls in particular. This suggests to me that the actual vote was improperly recorded or reported. The mechanism for accomplishing such a thing is not beyond the skills of a highly motivated and ethically challenged campaign that values victory over virtue. Even at this late date, I strongly believe that it is important to examine all surviving materials pertaining to that vote, by whatever means possible, to ascertain the absolute fairness and accuracy of that result. The Obama momentum was effectively damped, and the Clinton effort given new legs by that outcome. For me, it never passed the smell test. I am sad to say it, but I think we are bound to have a baby Rove in the woodpile. What are your thoughts?

Thanks to a friend, I was able to attend tonight's musical at the Des Moines Civic Center - "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" (Spelling Bee). It was a fun night, but as I drove home, a bell went off in my head (and no, Spellers, it wasn't Vice-Principal Panch), I recognized that Senator Clinton and her campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination can be encapsulated using many of the lyrics from the musical.

With Great Sadness - Reflections on New Hampshire

This was not a good day for our team. Obama didn't win the New Hampshire Bowl. But only by the slimmest of margins.

Sadly, no one really noticed that this was actually a big win for Obama. Hillary won by only less than 3%, resulting in a tie in delegate counts. This is a smaller difference delegate-wise and percentage-wise than Iowa, giving Obama more (non-super) delegates than Hillary at the time. Plus, minus post-Iowa predictions, Obama did great, and came in where he was expected.

Pundits discussed for days how it was that the polls diverged from what actually occurred. And truthfully, this was the reason for the great disappointment we now feel, for we had all of our expectations placed so high by those polls.

As for why, I think it was a variety of reasons. It's sexist, but I think that we, men and women, don't like to see a woman cry. Especially if there's something we can do about it. As one commentator said, we don't want to fire her (from a possible Presidency). When she expressed emotion the day before the primary (and I don't think that was false- I think it was genuine emotion, though perhaps a calculation to express it), voters realized she had emotions, and they didn't want her to cry. It seems a number connected with Clinton at that moment as a real human being, and as a woman. (Ironically, the woman who prompted the tears with her question- she ended up voting for Obama.)

Consider the opposite. (It's great when we have a control for a hypothesis!) Allegations were made against Presidential candidate Edmund Muskie and his wife, and he gave a speech defending her just before the New Hampshire primary in 1972. (It turned out after the election that the allegations were part of Nixon's "Dirty Tricks" campaign.) During the speech it appeared as if Muskie was crying, though he claimed it was snow melting on his face. Because of that event, he won New Hampshire, but by a smaller margin than originally predicted. Previously he was leading in the polls; after that, he fell behind and McGovern gained the momentum and eventually the nomination.

A man crying is bad (to voters), and they won't vote for him. A woman crying is a bad thing, and we (voters believe) have to step in to help her stop.

I think a second big reason New Hampshirans supported Hillary, from interviews with voters after the fact, is that some, especially women, liked all the candidates equally. When it came down to it, they thought, "Well, I should then vote for a woman."

Note that, though I think the wrong candidate won, I think both of these reasons are very legitimate reasons for voting.

The final reason, I believe, was that all the press indicated a big win for Obama, and so Independents thought, "Well, I don't need to vote for Obama then, and I like McCain too," and they went over for McCain.

So, tonight is a sad night for Obama fans. But there is still hope. After all, we've got Obama, and he has a whole lot of baraka.

I am 30 years old and uninsured. Hillary constantly blasting Obama about leaving people out of his Health Care Plan is not only extremely offensive, but Completely Untrue! I am NOT COVERED under Hillary's Health Plan. But I AM covered under Obama's Plan! I live in NH but cannot live in our neighboring state Massachusetts because, as would happen in Hillary's plan, I WOULD BE FINED repeatedly for not being able to afford the $650/month for health insurance! Insurance companies defend their high price saying I am in the "highest" risk bracket because I am a male 30 years of age. To top all this insanity off, I have been charged over $47,000 by hospitals and doctors in the last few years because of unfortunate health problems. I have been forced so far into debt as a result that I eventually stopped caring about a system and government that didn't care for me. Not only did these hospitals and doctors charge me top dollar, but they Treated me like Absolute Garbage! Once I was labeled as "uninsured", which is the VERY FIRST THING these medical offices do as you step in the door, they treat you like a third-class citizen! I have been repeatedly denied access to specialists, denied appointments, and flat out told that I "cannot afford" treatment! I am NOT less of a person, I am NOT less of an American citizen, and my life and health is certainly NOT any more disposable than anyone else's. It is sickening to know that the U.S. is a leader in cutting edge medical technology, and I can't even have access to it because the doctor's offices think of me as a "low-profit" patient. And it makes me sick to hear people say stuff like this "doesn't happen." I have NEVER taken place in politics, I despise everything it has ever been. For the First time in my life I am stepping out and Forward to speak my voice in support of someone who I HONESTLY FEEL would listen. Barack Obama, you are a godsend. I have never been inspired by a political figure in my lifetime. If Barack does not become president, if he is held down by the same politics of old, if he is cheated out of a candidacy even after the majority of the American people have spoken out for him, then that is nothing more than a testament to the same old politically corrupt Washington and severely flawed election process that we as a people have grown to hate and distrust.

Obama SHOULD have won New Hampshire. Everybody I know, and everybody that they know, voted for him. It is known that Obama drew out first-time voters in record turnout. The reason he did not win New Hampshire is because a HUGE part of his support here was from New Voters, Independents, and Crossover Republicans who, after waiting TWO hours in line to vote, were TURNED AWAY AT THE BALLOT BOXES because they had not previously waited TWO hours in another line weeks before to change their party affiliation. There was so much voter turnout that ballot locations could not meet the needs or demands of the voters, some even running out of ballots! Had you not changed your party affiliation in advance to voting day you, and your nomineee, were simply out of luck! The system did not flex to accomodate the people, instead just turning them away and disheartening and disenchanting the people into once again feeling that the US government really does not care about hearing everyone's voice. I know this is why Obama lost in NH for a fact because my significant other has worked for THE major newspaper in our state for almost 30 years, and their phone lines were inundated with Obama voters on the day of voting. Obama supporters were EXTREMELY upset that they were not allowed to cast their ballots, and were simply turned away at the election posts. They asked for phone numbers to call and complain. All of these people who were so inspired to come out of the woodwork to vote for something they believe in were simply turned away.

Contrary to Hillary's panderings on foreign policy, Barack Obama's election into Presidency would not only restore respect towards the American people throughout the World, and prove to the world that Americans have moved beyond the racial divide of old, but would open new lines of communication with the rest of the world. The rest of the world has grown to hate us and our leaders over the last few years. The world is so turned off by our current leader's arrogance that it is no wonder we don't get anywhere in talks with them. We as the American people have been wrongly represented by the Bush Administration, and all its pride, arrogance, disregard, and self-serving deceptive interests. How can the world trust a government that its own people doesn't trust? We are taking back our voice and sending forth a new Leader who more accurately portrays our empathies, interests, and visions. This is our chance to win back respect in the World's forum, let the world see there is a new generation of Americans with more progressive interests than politics of old, more heart, and more drive than ever in making this world a better place for the too-often-overlooked ordinary people.

The Backspace Key, Debates, and Primary Nominations

After nearly two hours of trying to write this blog, I inadvertently hit the backspace key and wind up erasing what I was trying to say, so now, I have to start again.

Well, there may be a point to that backspace key, and I don't mean to erase blogs. I needed to rethink how I want to tell Obama how to make use of the time that he has before the Ohio debate as well as the March 4 primaries.

After the Texas debates, it was a draw, whether you like it or not, but unlike after Iowa, a lot has happened, and now, Obama is leading with a wider margin. However, Hillary is trying to pull a New Hampshire -- again -- with that last comment in the debate. She is even making that comment her new ad.

With the stakes so high, I don't want my vote in Georgia to be lost by votes in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. I was worried, so I went and looked up what was going on CNN and MSNBC, and the scrutenizing has gone to a sharper tone against Obama. I originally wanted to point out and highlight those points, but then I hit that backspace key, erasing my blog work, and I was pretty mad that I had done that.

I don't want Obama's 10 wins (or 11 wins if you include the Super Tuesday results for Democrats Abroad) to wind up accidentally hitting the backspace key because of the recent commotion. I don't know if another reviting speech like what he had done at New Hamshire will work with the sharper Hillary attacks. (And I am aware of the controversy of the New Hampsire primaries, but I am referring to his need to remain alert and level-headed about the campaign, not the voting controversy.) Unlike this blog, which I can rewrite quickly, this election is much more dynamic than the blogs, so agility is necessary in the campaign.

Obama must remain sharp, calm, and level-headed now. Hillary will attack him on everything, including his record, his speech, and his integrity. First, he needs to show his humanity during his next debate while hammering hard on the distinctions on his record and policy, making sure of its accuracy and thoroughness. Second, like an artist needs to feel inspiration and meaning in his paintings before he can make the audience see it in his brush strokes, the debator must see the emphasis of his concern in every word he makes, drawing from all he has learned and endured, in life. Third, he will need continue what he did right in Texas, including:

going second;
fighting for every key point;
keeping a confident stance.

Finally, he needs express why he will be able to do a better job with the voters even though his policy will require our input, as well as including his suggestions in his policy. Close the deal with confidence, humanity, and humility.

Maybe I could not get all my quotes and links into this blog, but maybe my hitting the backspace key helped me write the blog I needed to post. His New Hampshire speech helped him reset the campaign back to its winning ways, as Obama is genuine, so I hope he keeps his campaign going to victory, God willing, on March 4. He doesn't need to hit the backspace key on his campaign now.

And to the rest of us, keep vigillant. It's not over until the nomination is made. I will not vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but I will vote for Obama if he runs as an independent. I could care less about political parties, but the people do matter. What's the point of political parties if all it does is create policy that divides the people that they "support" instead of aiding the people to speak out? Or maybe lobbyists like political parties because it's easier to enact their policies instead of ours? Just some food for thought.

However, since Obama is running as a Democrat, he must show them why he is better; and, in a way, he already has: by showing he can unite voters without changing his message.

The whisper reached Scotland ........

About one year ago I was in Dundee Scotland watching BBC news 24 and I saw something going on........some black guy was making his run for President of the USA. Well I got told by the last president that i was his countries enemy because I didnt believe the fairy stories about invisible WMA. I watched the brave French try to hold up the tide of fascism which threatened to engulf the UN but it is easier to stop a springtide than a republican with a big gun. I lost a friend in Basra to friendly fire. He was 23 and thought he was doing something good. Before he died he wanted to kill Tony Blair for lying to him, for being responsible for the death of friends of his and ultimately being responsible for his own death. I burned an American flag the day the war started on the steps of the Royal Museum Of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. I cried for the children of Palestine as they were killed by Israeli soldiers and the US vetoed UN censure. Then I heard a voice...........it was for me the voice that Saint Paul heard on his road to Damascus. The voice of sanity recognisable in the midst of madness. I watched the speech. I thought...........if this guy was white he might be able to change things .... to realise the dream that he crafted so seductively........but hell he is a black man and the USA will not have the sense or the vision or the audacity to elect such a man even though that man can begin to heal the wounds caused by Bush et al. But I remembered. Throughout the year I would check the polls. Round about where I thought he would be. How can this man be so far behind when he can communicate so well. Clinton I never really trusted although I would have supported her 4 years ago to get Bush out but she chickened it. I watched as Obama won in Iowa and listened to his acceptance speech.....I watched him lose in New Hampshire and watched his losers speech. At that moment everything changed forever. this was a man who as gracious in defeat as humble in victory could unite not only the people of a scarred nation but of a fractured world.

This is such an amazing speech Barack gave in New Hampshire on the night of the primary on 1/8/08. This is from the last 2 to 3 minutes from Barack Obama's "Yes We Can" speech. It just touched my heart and I felt I needed to blog it!!!

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.
